So we have just been told by our MOT that we'll need new brake pads and discs for our car.

They didn't give us an estimate, so i was wondering 2 things:

1. Roughly how much are we looking at?

2. Are there any brands that you can recommend we make sure they install? I don't want to end up with Tesco 2 stripe brake pads and discs :D

Thanks.

EDIT: Forgot to add its a Citroen C4 56 plate.

All 4 need replacing? How much is actually left on them, should be able to see the front pads by turning wheels to full lock and peering through the wheels.

Luckily though you won't be looking at a fortune for brakes on a C4.

Put your reg into

http://www.eurocarparts.com/

And see what roughly they will cost, add code PAGID30 on too

Appreciate your posts

We are not sure if they said all 4, but i dont know if it would be a good idea to do all 4 then have some brakes working better then the others?

I have no idea about cars in the slightest, so i have no idea what i should be aiming for.

So like this :

Is that the single unit price? or does that mean (Front) both wheels for example?

Also is Pagid the brand type?

Sorry I'm really out of my depth here.

Pagid is the brand, and a fairly decent one at that. Those prices are per disc.

if you just enter the registration number (which you have done I guess), the site will show the ones suitable for your vehicle.

Yeah Pagid is the brand, and ECP always quotes prices per pair (Pair = enough to do one axle so buying 1 set will do fronts on both wheels).

Fronts always wear much worse than the rears, but being a 6 year old car it's probably safe to say they've never been changed so worth doing anyway. Ask the garage which ones actually need doing :)

You sure?

It explicitly says on that link "£25.80 (Priced Per Disc)"

HMm, unless they've changed it. I bought some earlier in the year and they came boxed as a pair, OP is better ringing to confirm but I'm 99.99% sure thats for a pair. When would you buy just one brake disc :p

I've been caught out with euro car parts before... got 1 front droplink sat on my desk for my Yaris... I just assumed 'who they hell would buy just 1 surely it'll be a pair!' but no :(

Problem i'm having is there is multiple different prices and different looks, so i have no idea if one is like a "sports" version or what have you?

So if i understand this correct:

I'd need 2x

http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/C...480b53ac6db72681ce6171c44ae00630b944ad&000027

And 2x

They will fit the car and are a decent brand?

Then I'd need pads?

I imagine so.

I would phone EuroCarParts in the morning and check with them to make sure, but if you've chosen your car on their site, they should be showing the right parts.

I have no idea why it's showing multiple Pagid discs at different prices. Might be worth asking them that too.

Pagid are absolutely fine as a brand, plus ECP have a 12month warranty on brake components so if they give you and problems, you're covered really.

But I'd ring them tomorrow and confirm because I'm sure my GF's discs came as a pair earlier this year. But you'll want new pads too, change pads when fitting new discs. Seems expensive but don't forget the 30% off code above.

Don't worry about brake fluid, it's irrelevant.

Garage should be able to change them, it's about a 15-20 minute job per wheel and it's just a case of removing the wheel, undoing two bolts on the caliper and pulling the old bits off, then replacing with new ones.

Thanks, will i need calipers? :p

To be absolutely clear op

You need 1 x each of the pads (front and back) - these are priced per axle i.e 1 x front 1 x rear, 4 pads in a box

&

2x front discs
2x rear discs

The discs will come in a box of two but you need to pay for 2 discs per axle if that makes sense, the site would probably flag up trying to purchase 1 nr disc anyway

I'd ask them if all 4 need doing first though, you might find the rears or fronts are fairly new in which case there's honestly little point in replacing unless you have issue with how the car stops at present
