Could you use deadly force to defend an animal / pet?

Seems like Craterloads wants to off his little brother for whatever it was his brother was doing to his Cat's arms (Paws).....

I don't think you can actually kill him though mate, rough him up a bit but that is about it.

I'd gladly put myself in the the way of someone attacking either of my dogs. How much damage I do to said attacker is entirely up to them...

To me it's no different from someone attacking any other close family member... I'd protect them, and likely seek revenge if they were killed or seriously hurt in my absence. :)

Oh knows, looks bad doesn’t it :o Should just point out in no way are these threads/posts related, and i am not planning to kill my brother (in before i get reported to some mental health agency)

Ill share a little on mine today, which was why i started this thread.

It involved me beating the living daylights out of my ***hole little brother, stabbing him with blunt instruments through the throat, screw drivers and such. Let me just say i would never do such a thing but that’s what was going through my mind.

And just to let off some steam

The thick little **** doesn’t listen. When playing with our cat he picks it up by its front arms and I’ve told him a dozen times, don’t ****ing pick up the cat by the arms as you will end up dislocating its arm/shoulders. You’re a fully grown man and the cat is tiny. No, no he answers, cats arms are really strong blah blah

Anyhow woke up, went down stairs to find out the little **** had accidently dislocated the cats left arm from picking it up from its front arms. Then somehow he managed to put it back into place (the cats ok), i proceeded to tell him i ****ing told you so you dum ****, are you retarded. I was expecting a response like "sorry i won’t do it again" but what does the little **** say " it's my cat, i bought it" which ****ed me off even more, like that gives him some right to act like a moron.

Another point you guys should consider is, what circumstances are occurring?

For example, if you aren't controlling your dog (for arguments' sake) properly and someone who has a gun and a phobia of dogs is 'assaulted' by your dog, then you can hardly blame them for killing your dog if they were overcome by fear.

As for the original question, I don't think that animals are as important as humans, but anyone who can inflict intentional cruelty upon an animal (non arachnids...) probably doesn't deserve to live anyway :o

I wouldn't have a gun to use because this isn't 'MERICA so the bad guy with his illegal gun would have total control.

Crossbow then or one of the myriad of ranged weapons not criminalised under UK legislation.

I would definitely shoot the dog. Time served for shooting a dog = nil, time served for murdering a human = lots.

It's manslaughter not murder, it doesn't even necessarily result in a prison sentence.

I am against killing as most sane person should be but if anyone wanted to harm my dog they become the enemy and thus I would talk all necessary measures to stop them.

Most of the talk I've read through revolves around defending your typical homepets.

How would you feel if you were defending an animal that was part of an endangered species from poachers who only want to kill them to make a quick buck? How far would you defend the animal? I imagine the response would be different to someone defending a dog or a cat at home.

...would that maybe be because you (as in the average poster here, not an animal rights activist) wouldn't have formed an emotional bond with the endangered animal in question? That they don't live at home under your care?

Answers on a post card please. ;)

I'm not quite sure on what the intention of your post is.

My post was aimed at those who place little value on the lives of someone's pet. This is just a conjecture, but I think most people will agree that endangered species deserve to be protected, perhaps even with lethal force, against poachers who sell them for profit.

While these same people may disagree that a domestic animal doesn't deserve the same level of protection, perhaps because it doesn't have as much value, except to the owner.

Although lethal force should always be a last resort.

Animals are property and you could use reasonable force to defend it, deadly would never be reasonable.

Attack is the wrong word, suitably restrain would be a better term.

Also, key word - defend. Using force AFTER THE ACT IS OVER will land you with an assault charge.
