I just changed my MX518 to 500hz polling rate... It definately feels smoother and it is easier to aim on CS:GO....

Anyway I was just wondering as this is not a default function in windows 7, is there any possibility of damage to the USB ports or mouse or any other USB devices?

I assume that it will be fine as you can buy USB 2.0 mice that run at 1000hz polling rate as default so clearly the USB ports can run this OK although I am a little worried it could damage other USB devices or cause problems as this is a patch which is not official.

Does anyone know the answer to this?

Did you hack this or did you change it in the driver software? On my G500 Mouse I can change from 125-1000 and I use 1000-1ms and never had any issue this on a USB 2.0 port.
But if you hacked this and your mouse not designed to run at high rate am not sure if its good or bad.

It's very unlikely. I've used the hack on three different machines over the years. Never had an issue on XP or Win7 beta/final.
