A friend has just been scammed out of his PS vita.

He was paid for it, and sent it 6 weeks ago to an address (names matched up) and got notification from paypal today notifying him that they had took the money back from him and reimbursed the buyer.

Turns out, the payment came from a Danish PC, but how does this work? VPN?

What can he do about it?

Lost cause Really. Sorry to hear.

Some more details would be good. Did the buyer just open a case or was someone's accounthacked ?
Also.. What was the buyer's feedback?

I would think someones paypal was hacked, but this should mean that paypal cover the money, not the seller?

Not sure on the feedback side though

I had same issue, I sold a Vita and the guy charged it back a few months later, the amount was in Danish Krone.

The guy issued the chargeback on the grounds that he didn't authorise the payment, I took a screenshot of the message he sent me after he won the Vita saying he had just paid via paypal, I also took a screenshot of the proof of postage including signature and gave it all to paypal resolution center.

They took a couple of weeks but I got the money back.

If he doesnt have proof of delivery or anything like that he is screwed.

Did he post it via a tracked delivery service to the REGISTERED paypal address on the buyers account?

if he did then paypal should return him his money.

Maybe that fact it has happened with at least one other person ( Danish and Vita) is enough to be able to claim his money back, no?

He cannot find the proof of postage as it was 6 weeks ago :(

Unfortunately not, and it will be something I will be making sure of in the future as iv'e never checked this :p

You will definitely need the proof of posting!
So paypal took the money from you and reimbursed the seller?
