Latest iPad?

I'm getting a little confused with what the latest iPad is, as i can see 'The New iPad and iPad 3rd gen and i'm struggling to find a list of release dates, anyone got any ideas?

There are currently three models of iPad, you can find a comparison of features here:

The 3rd gen iPad was released in March 2012 while the latest models were all released October/November.

So the 3rd gen iPad is the latest apart from the iPad mini?

No. The 4th Gen is the latest.

Retina with lightning connector.

Just looking at the argos website now but there's no 4th gen option?

No, the iPad 3rd gen was released in March 2012 and it was superseded by the 4th gen known as the iPad with Retina Display. All the models listed in my link above are the latest models of iPad. Apple have three different models at this time.

I'm getting confused as i thought one of the iPad were called 'The New iPad'?

The new iPad was the name given to the 3rd gen model, this was replaced by the 4th gen model which is called iPad with Retina Display.

Indeed they have, I was just getting confused as i thought there was an iPad called 'The New iPad' So is this now called 3rd gen?

Apple have discontinued the 3rd gen iPad so it should be available for sale in any shops.

I can't comment on what Argos is saying but the link you posted was for the 4th gen iPad. The major differences between the 3rd and 4th gen iPads are the processor and charging port. The 4th gen has the A6X processor and a lightning port. You can use that to confirm you are getting the latest iPad.

thanks, I'll just look for the A6X chip on the spec on the box

Not sure Apple packaging lists stuff like that does it? Would be better looking at the part number on the barcode. Will be something like MD513B/A. Do a Google for the exact model (storage size + 3G/WiFi) and use that if you need to be sure.

In theory, unless somewhere has old stock of the iPad 3rd gen, any shop you walk into should be selling the 4th gen anyway. The only others ones you can "officially" buy new are the iPad 2 and iPad mini.
