Hi all,
I currently have a very old Sherwood receiver set up with an equally old 6.1 set of Eltax Cinemaxx speakers. The speakers are still doing ok but the amp is on it's last legs, the remote is dead, it keeps shutting off and as it's old it has no hdmi inputs so is getting difficult to connect up to new gear.

For the moment I plan to keep the speakers but I'd like to get a new receiver that can support the 6.1 set up and with multiple hdmi inputs as well as a couple of optical/coax inputs as well.

My budget is currently only £250, can I get those features for that kind of money or would I be better off saving up for a bit longer?

Many Thanks,

Ross

I have the sony STRDH820 & it is pretty much perfect for me, comes in around 220 quid & has almost everything you need apart from 2 optical inputs (it has one in & one out).

Check out richer sounds

Personal recommendation is the Pioneer.

It would be mine too, If it had 2 HDMI outputs and was available in silver Id've bought one by now. The Onkyo at 300 notes is a stonking spec piece of kit for the price, but the reliability and firmware issues Onkyo receivers have these days have put me off. :(

Hmm, after looking through the specs I was leaning towards the Onkyo myself, gets very good reviews from what I've seen. I though in general Onkyo were a pretty good brand, what sort of problems has their kit been having?

Personally, having installed dozens of Onkyo receivers and the odd BD in the last 18 months, they have (with me) roughly a 20%+ failure rate. I'd stick with Pioneer, or at a push Denon. Onkyo have given me no end of trouble.

Have a look on AV forums for the TX-NR515 owners thread. :)

I'm gutted as with the last month I've just spent £430 on the Yamaha RX-V673!!
This would have done me perfectly.

Gotta love richer sounds offers though :D

I paid £125 delivered for my Sony DA5200ES and it was pristine.
It was £900 in 2005 and all it doesn't have is 3D capabilities and the front USB port only accepts some mid 00's outdated mp3 plater.
The back of it is plastered with ports including 1080P HDMI ones.

I signed up to the AV forums and bought it. I haven't used the forums since but the people on there seemed nice.

I'm after a replacement for my Arcam av280 very soon, something that handles the hd sound formats. I'm hoping some nice 1-1.5k amps will be in the January sales for around £500-750 mark.
