Hey guys

So on boxing day ill build my new pc, im using a 3930K and a rampage extreme board with custom water loop. I wanted to know how hard it is to hit 5.0ghz? just as a target.

Im not a massively advanced OC'er my first OC was on my i7 920 and I hit 4.4 stable.

Thanks for any advice and insight into what I can expect!

You can be a little more agressive with voltages on SB-E, You should manage 4.8+ for benching, as above you may only see 4.4+ for 24/7 use.

im using a 850 watt psu, 4.5 would be fine since i guess theres no difference between that and 5.0 in use. I dont care about benching just the fastest speed i can use at a stable state

They are quite stable at high clocks but it is a bit of a pointless exercise. For normal use I run my hex core @4ghz and for ocing/benching up to 5ghz. For every day use you don't have to go much above 4ghz.

You should have no problem getting to 4.4 - 4.5ghz for 24/7 use and a bit more for benching etc.
