People that can't hold their drink

True.

There was one guy who got turfed out of a club for harassing women. He refused to leave the area even when given a S27 direction to leave, I talked with him for ages to get him just to go home. Ended up getting arrested. He calmed down and we agreed that if he just went home, we'd dearrest him and even drive him home.

He was so drunk that he freaked out in the back of the van and ended up punching me in the face almost breaking my nose. All I wanted was him to go home. He didn't remember anything when he woke up in the cells the next morning. He was kept in the cells for 2 days as he was remanded until court on Monday. All because he didn't know when to stop drinking.

I agree.

I think Britain needs to push personal responsibility back onto individuals. If you act like an *** hole when you drink then don't drink.

I'd Licence it like Driving Licences, if you can't handle your drink you lose your Licence, have a points system in place and only allow Alcohol to be sold to those with Licences, massive Fines and Forced Labour for those who break the rules.

Why not?

Are you really telling me that if they wanted, they couldn't replicate the same taste non-alcoholic?

If you're drinking it not for the taste, why are you drinking it...

Ok, to be fair, I can understand the occasional alcohol induced drink your problems away.

If they could replicate the taste without alcohol, non-alcohol beer wouldn't taste like crap! You could probably replicate the taste in highly sugary alcopops, but that's about it.

Drinking alcohol creates a nice buzz, relaxes people and increases their confidence. For good eggs amongst friends this can promote some really great times. It's a drug, like any other, and one that many people use together to create a group euphoria.

I personally enjoy the taste of wine and the alcoholic effects. I find drinking wine when talking with friends late in to the night very enjoyable.
In principle. I'm not sure the realities would make it possible, but if it could be done, I would support it if only for the health/social benefits.
I can't support the idea of banning something that millions of people safely and calmly enjoy because of the not-entirely-serious consequences of the actions of a small minority of people.

Drinking so much you're having your stomach pumped is one thing, that's poisoning yourself and is pretty stupid, but people like this I just think are scum deep down and think it's okay to let themselves go when drunk.

Good people don't turn into psychopaths when drunk.

I'll warn you now, that this is a rant.

I don't drink much any more, mainly because I get very annoyed about people who simply can't hold their drink.

Now apart from being very silly, ...
/Rant

You don't drink much any more because excessive alcohol makes some people act badly? Did it ever make you act badly?

Don't get me wrong, when I was a student I very much drunk to excess, but I never passed out, I never couldn't get home and I could always more or less look after myself.

Same here. My parents swore I was part homing pigeon for while. Used to be in the pub/club drinking away merrily, then when closing time comes around and you find yourself kicked out into the fresh air it was time to engage auto-pilot.

Only on a couple of occasions out of the countless times that I got home on auto-pilot did I ever get into any sort of bother, a couple of ones I remember are falling into an open grave and breaking my my wrist and then another time I jumped a 2' wall only to discover it was a 15' drop on the other side. :p

I binge drink often, but I just end up cuddling everyone, then getting a taxi home to bed, then the room starts spinning so I just have a quick kip next to the toilet :p

Saying that, only go out once a month now, start of the year it was 3 times a week D:

Burnsy, it's not too bad in some areas of soton.
I don't think it's the students that cause most of the problems tbh. There is literally no police presence in portswood on weekday nights.
I have been in Bedford place on a saturday night and it was awful. I try and stay away from there now on weekend nights as it seems like all the white **** roll in and want to start fights.

I agree, students, usually, aren't that bad. Bedford place is usually pretty busy with idiots. Carnage weekend is an exception though.

That and I get hangovers now.

Are you a full time cop?
Nope

+1 OP though not to the prohibition thing, that doesn't work.

Likewise. I drink to get merry and I know when to stop. Never been in a fight, arrested, never had an accident due to drink i.e. fallen / tripped over, been to A&E. Well yes, I have been to A&E but only when I was 11 thanks to a large Rover overtaking our small VW Golf and rammed us off the road instead :p

You don't come across as someone who needs to drink to be merry.

Two things. The consequences are very serious, many of which aren't necessarily obvious. Prof Nutt's infamous report into drugs harm is a good example of how bad it can be.

Secondly, although a minority, it's a very significant minority which seems to be growing.

They should make it harder to open beer bottles then idiots and uber drunk people wouldn't be able to carry on. Each bottle top could be like a mini aptitude test.

Brb, dragons den.

It's the British culture. You get treated like a loser if you don't go out drinking where you're pressured into over-drinking by your friends, the fact that without it the night is going to be crap, and the constant "cheap drinks" - and by cheap, I mean quick-to-get-you-drunk.

Of course there's a level of self-responsibility, but that tends to be pushed aside when you're essentially guided into drinking from an early age upwards.

Then there are those who genuinely can't hold their drink, and as such they're pushed to their limit very quickly.
