So it's getting to that time where I have had my computer for around a year and it's collected a nice amount of dust. Seeing as it's the Christmas break for me a was planning on taking out most of the components and giving them a good spray with some compressed air.

What other tools do you guys tend to use to get that like new effect?

I have heard people use a certain kind of brush, what type would that be?, Wanted to ask somebody beforehand in case I get one which can hold static and mess up some of my parts.

Many thanks

That's what I use
Thanks but do you know what type of brush it is?, Cause I think some can be bad for static. No idea hench why I'm asking but I saw a thread a while back but couldn't find it

A shotgun! Clean its right off the desk and out the window! lol

But on a serious note, i use a lens cloth and a microfibre brush for lenses as well.

.....Plus my mini henry hoover from red5 i got last year as a gift

Just some random one from Wilkinson. Tested it out first on an old pakard bell. It still worked after that so you could test on a system you don't use.

If your actually brushing the PCBs you should, in theory, be using one with conductive bristles designed for the job.

I use paint brushes for fans, heatsinks, etc., but just rely on compressed air for the actual electronics.

Small paint brush and compressed air works a treat. IPA for cleaning the heat spreader and heat sink prior to applying new paste, which you don't need to do with a 1 year old system :)

Isopropyl alcohol and cotton buds usually! Or nail varnish remover instead of Isopropyl!

I use compressed air. If you are OCD on cleaning you might want to buy a little compressor rather than keep stocking cans.

Using a brush I avoid. Electro static discharge (ESD) doesn't necessarily kill the component dead but can shorten it's life span. I use a J cloth to clean fan blades, maybe a cotton bud dipped in isopropyl alcohol if im feeling obsessive afterwards (my fan blades are clear). Handy to have a bottle of the stuff, on rare occasions I've used lighter fluid to help shift thermal grease.

Honestly normally trying to feed it pizza through the dvd tray and it cleans itself after I've fed it.

...though I have heard rumors that a can of air works just as good as this method.

IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) in an ultrasonic bath.

What?? Yh ok, OCD!!

*note*

If you're gonna use a brush use a natural bristle, synthetics are bad for static. Quality paint brushes are good (go for boar bristle)
