Nexus 7 or iPad Mini?

Hi,

Wanted some help deciding which of these to go for. It'll primarily be used for web browsing, watching twitch.tv streams, maybe some movie playback and some gaming.

So... questions....

Can the iPad Mini play twitch streams (which AFAIK use adobe flash) ? If it can't do flash, is there a maybe twitch iOS app and is it ok? I'm assuming the Nexus 7 can handle twitch streams fine.

Is there a decent amount of games on android yet, or is gaming a clear win for the iPad?

Can I use paypal to buy games/apps from the app stores on either device?

Anything else I should be considering?

Cheers :)

Without bashing Apple or Android Id say go and try both devices and see what you like best. Everyone has different needs and wants.

I have an iPad2 and love it but its personally the only Apple product I like.

I have a Nexus 7 & luv it.. I like the nexus so much im planning on a nexus 4 phone as soon as my current HTC contract ends.

ipad mini is way overpriced IMO

nexus 7... ipad is nearly twice the price for the equivalent size capacity... and in my view is less powerful. It does not feel cheap even though it's made of plastics (it's good quality stuff)

flash doesn't work with stock 'chrome' browser. Grab firefox (or similar) and sideload flash and you should be good to go though.

gaming's fine in my opinion as long as you like the onscreen control aspect (but android does support a range of controllers etc not that I've tested them)

as to paypal.... not to my knowledge but I just use google to pay...

Thanks.

Reason I ask about paypal is, I get charged about £1.30 by my bank every time I buy anything on the google play store with my visa debit card. I think it's because it counts as an overseas transaction.

Might well be the same on the iOS store though.

Sometimes it does that to me too but it depends on what app I'm buying. Most of the apps I bought they didn't charge me extra.

Personally I would go for the Nexus 7, the mini's price is too high and honestly, I prefer the Android OS over iOS.

As for twtch tv... I use their official app to watch streams with no problems:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.twitch.android.viewer&hl=en

I tried out a few tabs and pretty much instantly ignored the mini purely because it isn't worth an extra £150 more than a 32GB nexus 7 costs.

Also, the mini has a slightly bigger screen yet lower resolution so the nexus has more pixels per inch which technically means better definition. In devices of this size though you'll be lucky to notice any difference. The nexus tends to fit in most jacket pockets quite nicely as well whereas I struggled with a friends mini (oh er missus).

There's a twitch app on android, although I've not used it so I'm assuming its fine. Wouldn't really say there's too much difference between the app stores nowadays. Some developers do still release first for apple and then android or have exclusive apps to a particular store. Can't think of many good games that aren't on both platforms though, there's plenty on both! Apple probably still has the edge in that regard.

As far as I'm aware you can only pay with a credit or debit card on both app stores.

Thanks. Yeah I've pretty much decided on the nexus, but I'll have to see them in person, and it's looking like nowhere is going to have stock of either nexus or ipad mini until after christmas now.

I was in the same boat & went with the nexus 32gb no brainer for the money, I wasnt disappointed its a awesome peice of kit feels & looks very well built, Im not bias I've have a few Apple products inc a macbook pro, as said above if you want flash download it & use with Firefox browser, the screen looks amazing, & everything is drag & drop no need to mess about when transfering films music etc

For a small, portable tablet i'd pick a N7 hands down. It has good maps, a screen better suited to video playback, better generic ereader capabilities and fits in a jacket/coat/handbag easier.

iPads are better for gaming, magazine / comic reading and web browsing - but in the full fat form factor. The mini is compromised and overpriced.

I don't have a Nexus 7 but I do have a Samsung Note phone and have just bought the kids an iPad mini each for Christmas. There are so many great games on the mini and I honestly think that the size is perfect. However I'm finding it so frustrating to use at the moment. It's driving me mad as it feels so limited compared to the Note I have. But it's early days and maybe I'll get used to using them.

Hi there

By end of January were hoping to have a dual core 7" with quad graphics and IPS screen, basically a Nexus 7 competitor but less money. :)

Or give the OcUK Ultima 7" a try, it's £90, has 24GB (with free 16gb card) but it's single core but is an IPS unit running lower 1024x600 resolution, compared to Nexus 1280x1024 so it's pretty quick and feels good quality wise and only £90 :)
