Derek Keilloh was a Doctor with the Queen's Lancashire Regiment in Iraq when the Hotel Receptionist Baha Mousa died whilst in British Army custody. He has been struck off the Medical Register by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service; this can only be a good thing.
However, what is incredible is that despite a year-long inquiry under Sir William Gage, the report of which ran to 1,366-pages and named 19 soldiers who assaulted Baha Mousa and other detainees and found that many others, including several officers, must have known what was happening, the ONLY soldier who has been punished is Corporal Donald Payne, the whistle-blower who admitted to meting out inhuman treatment to detainees.
The shocking diary kept by Stuart MacKenzie gives some idea as to the day to day behaviour by British troops in Iraq that was apparently considered normal and acceptable. God help us when these thugs return to civilian life.
Quite disgraceful!
