Sony Nex 5R
Im new to photography, I didnt want to spend lots and lots, nor did I want a bigish bulky kit. Im interested in taking pics of nature, and landscapes, trees, architecture etc. Busy reading the handbook.

I found it at a reasonably good price, brand new. Bought the 55-210 lens seperate. £550 in total with lowepro apex 110 AW case, screen protectors and 4gb sd. I'm happy.

I have had the 5N model with the dual lens kit since last year, absolutely loving mine and I bought it for the exact same reasons as you. Still being new to the photography and all can you compare how much more zoom the 55-210 gives?

Thats the only thing I feel I am missing from my photos, is the lack of being able to zoom in more. But I'm not sure if that lens is what I need.

I've finally bought something for myself that's worthy of one of these threads! Also helps to break up all this mac mini vs pc nonsense ;)

Just LOL at buying a Mac Mini.

Just read the posts, amazing. Actually speechless. Each individual thing was hilarious enough but putting them together is just even better.

Ok so he blew almost a grand on cosmetic stuff for his gaming PC. Dubious? Probably. Massive waste of money BUT it's done now.

But to then suggest he should have bought a Mac Mini?! Just.. what? Of all the things to buy instead of an over-specified over-cooled high end gaming PC... a Mac Mini? Can you even FIT a decent graphics card in a Mac Mini?

Then he moves on to preaching about wasting money when he spends huge amounts of time in this thread posting more and more pictures of items just as completely pointless as Rossi's PC if not more so, £200 on a Taylor Swift junk? That does even less than this guys empty box and cooling gear! At least its functional.

People in glasses houses shouldnt throw stones let alone launch bricks :p

My favourite part is all the money he spends on Starbucks mugs.

I mean, if you want a cup with a handle to put a hot drink in, then there are several more unbranded mugs that will cost you pence.

Failure to understand people will buy what they want is strong with this one.

And just because Raymond Lin thinks that saying 'just my 2p' means that you somehow can't then think the person is being a ****, that's just my 2p!

LOLRaymond Lin :p

He actually spent £200 on a Taylor Swift picture??:eek:

You couldnt make this shizzle up if you tried :/

Just my 2p as well:p:D

The difference in lenses is like night and day, its a much bigger clearer, sharper better zoom as expected really. the 18-55mm is great for your general purpose, but the 55-210mm is just so good to have for them closer distance shots. I'm still learning how to get the best out of the cam, but certainly from what I can tell so far in the short time I've had it, its a worthwhile purchase to have.

Would you be able to take comparison shots? i.e. one with no zoom (either lens) then full zoom with the 18-55 and one with the 55-200 from the same point.

I just dont know if its big enough, i'm heading to Canada late next year and just considering all the major landmarks etc which I'll be photographing. I'm stuck between this or holding off till I have twice the money for the 18-200mm lens

To save him the hassle: http://www.tamron-usa.com/lenses/learning_center/tools/focal-length-comparison.php

Lets you compare anything from 10-500mm on different sized sensors. The NEX is APS-c sized.

I let it go but was waiting for you to reply. :p knew you would.

The point is that he spent a grand on cables and stuff, call it water cooling or you want but it's just cosmetic stuff for a PC.

If his computer is in bits and he needs a new case, sure, buy it and put it together as he needs it to get it up and running. However, it is not. It's already up and running. So it's a thousand quid on a few decibel.

Bearing in mind he is saving for a house.

Now, I said "get a Mac mini", I don't know why I even need to explain it, I thought it was very obviously tbh, is that they are quiet, we all know they are quiet. He got the water cooled stuff because he hates the whine of his current rig, he got a new case because it is nicer. A Mac mini is small, discrete, tug it in a corner and he won't even see it or notice it is there. It was just the price he spent on a case and cables, discounting the monitor, it cost the same as a fully up and running computer that is quiet and discrete.....can you not see that? Yes his gaming PC will still be loud but look, 2 computers, seems to be better value for money to me. The old one still run as fast as before. Still there, not gone anywhere.

I said it can run windows because if I didn't, I know someone will say "he doesn't want a mac".

Sure you can't put a graphic card in there, but he doesn't have to. Why? He already has a full on up and running computer.

I could've said "save the money for the house" or "put it towards a holiday" or "buy a secondhand car" or anything. To me, it's a thousand quid on cosmetic upgrade for a PC...that really all there is. People now just grabbing the Mac mini thing coz its suddenly turned into a meme.........:p. oops

Then again, it's his money. He can do what he wants, my opinion is that it was unnecessary when he is saving for a house.

P.s. Taylor Swift? How about BMW 335i? :p

Yes because spending £200 on Taylor Swift merc is just like buying a car obviously :p

The point buying that no matter how daft his purchase was - and, frankly, I'd rate it high up the daftlist - you are probably the last one who can get away with branding it a waste of money given the vast amount of money you spend on quite literally nothing and document it constantly in this thread :p

He wants a quiet gaming PC, not a loud gaming PC and a HTPC. I think you may have to concede this one.

Saying that it was a bit excessive, but then if it's his hobby then so what?

No it's not like buying a car, it's like buying something I love, but I still have the Taylor stuff, where is your car that you spent 6months of research on? :p

Anyway, that beside the point, to bringing up crap like that is like arguing like a bunch of girls, sorry girls :p.

I know he doesn't want a Mac mini, thus I said, like how many times? That he is saving for a house....should have put the money towards that instead, the Mac mini is a comparison in terms of cost of what kind of silent computer you can buy, not making him buying one.

Sigh, nevermind, enjoy the quiet PC Rossi :)

Picked her up last week :D. Sorry for the terrible picture, best I could do with my phone. When a sunny blue sky day comes around (eventually) I will take some better pictures :)
