Just how much more future-proof will a GTX 670 make your setup, compared to a 660?

I hear a lot on these forums that the memory configuration for GTX 660 is whack, and takes a huge fps nose dive as soon as you turn AA up above 2x, which is not that great tbh. I quite like having AA on, bad jaggies make a game look ****.

Is it really worth dropping £100-150 more on a 670? Will you get like a year more out of it before needing to upgrade? It's almost double the price of a non-Ti GTX 660 (for like 10-15fps difference)
:S

Have you thought about a HD 7950/70 they come with a 384 bit memory bus and 3gb of vram both of which make them more future proof than a GTX 660 or 670

192 bit bus vs 256 bit bus.

There isn't much difference in future proofness but still quite a difference in relative terms.

Answer the 660 (non TI) is a great card for the price.
The 660Ti is a rip off for the price.
The 670 is the sweet spot for nVidia at the high end.

On the 660ti if you overclock the memory then the memory bandwidth is never a problem.

I also love my aa :) and 660ti doesn't disappoint.

For example on battlefield 3 stock 660ti then 4xmsaa did seem choppy but as soon as you overcclock them memory up to 6500mhz it's perfectly fine.

I currently run my card at 7000mhz memory :)

It helps but it doesn't cure the underlying problem.

Depends what way you look at it :)

The card is always going to have it's draw backs if not it would cost more money :)

But memory overclock is enough to make the smaller memory bus a non issue for most games at 1080p.

Don't think it really is.

Unless you've got some proof?

Ok,

Give me a few days (because I want to do it on my new rig)

I will run a load of heaven benchmarks with different levels of AA and compare the performance hit with memory overclocked vs stock.

Does this sound Ok :)

That won't really show what we're discussing though.

imginy,

It's pointless, as long as you like your card that's all that matters.

Nothing at all wrong with benchmarking your card to see how it performs though.

^^ With the latest 12.11 drivers, the 7950 will surpass the 670 frame rate wise in BF3. Not sure on 'smoothness' but that should as well.
