i5 3570k @ stock (turbo boost on)
Noctua NH-14D - (socket 2011 version with PWM fans, mounted using the official Noctua 1155 socket kit) + the paste that came with it.

Using Real temps and HW monitor (not at same time) Idle temps are shown as wildy fluctuating between a min' sub-ambient (17) on core 2 and spiking at 41-48 degrees. All cores are fluctuating erratically.

Average seems to be "normal" 22-35 but is jumping up and down rapidly, every second, never stays still for more than 2-3 secs. common spike is from 22/23 to 33/34 and back, with occaisional spikes to 40+ on ll cores

In the f5 bios the pc health status shows the temp as 26 dgrees, but in the MIB intelligent tweeker over view it shows cores 1-4 as 40-42, 30-32, 41-43, 42-44 - TEMPS ARE NOT SPIKING IN BIOS

In the latest f7 bios temps are shown as 35 in the pc health status... 10 degree difference than f5 with no other changes. Temps in MIT remain the same.

It is worth mentioning that the PWM sets the fans to sub 400 rpm at idle, so +40 would not be abnormal spike at that speed?

  • I have tried re-seating the cooler, and it did not help.

I have been told by some that changing temps is normal, and i5 ivy is known to be erractic. But is a spike of 20+ degrees in 1-2 sec i.e. 23-43-22 considered normal?

OCUK staff told me that it should not do this and temps should not change by more than 1-3 degrees.

Please adivde if you can!

Edit** forgot to mention that under prime95 blend test 15 mins temps never exceed 55, and remain prety stable, no erratic jumping.

tbh it is normal and nothing to worry about

at idle mine is about 20c as soon as i start doing anything it will jump up to about 35-40 depending on how strenuous

gaming and video editing will take it higher

its not damaging your cpu and is normal.

mine is jumping from low 20's up o 40's just sat at "idle" OCUK told me to RMA the board and cpu, but I am not happy abut the idea, want to use the pc over xmas! do you really think it is normal?

i am worried about the big discreancy between the bios (39-40) and the booted wndows temps. Is this ecaseu in the bios the CPU is gng at full whack 3600Mhz as it shows in the display, and when in windows it is throttled back?

Keep an eye on vcore in cpu-z

V core is 0.936, jumoing to 0.948, 0.972 and 1.036

Sounds fine to me then. Mine jumps about the same high 20s to mid 30s to low 40s all in the blink of an eye at idle.

Well that sounds reassuring... do you have a similar setup? could I possibly ask yo to check your bios and see what the temps are reported as in there?

My niggle is that OCUK staff I spoke to today told me it was faulty, and to return it, I suppose there is a chance they are wrong...

remember the power saving of the cpu doesnt work in the bios so itll be at full clocks/voltages,its only when in windows it starts to dowclock at idle,so temps will always be high in the bios

Good point. I suppose that the 40 degrees is due to the slow fan speed, cos my ambient temps are 20-22, 40 seems a bit high but the fans are only at roughly 400 rpm.
