My partner wants this phone on pay as you go, Xmas present.

I am in a dilemma, she has specifically asked for a windows phone for ease of use. I know many might disagree but she has used one and loves it.

Her mother has bought her a Samsung Galaxy Ace, the phone she really said she doesn't want to me, as I had already agreed to buy her the phone.

I am gonna go through hell trying to persuade her mother to return the phone even though I will pay the extra.

As I know sweet fa about phones am I likely to get the argument from the mother and the shop that the Galaxy Ace is a better phone?

The phone will cost about £150 as appose to £99 for the Samsung.

If the mother and shop (they most likely will as the majority of people who work in phone shops haven't got a clue) say it is a better phone, just show them this:

http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3724&idPhone2=4240

- much better screen
- much better camera
- much better battery life
- much better CPU/GPU, more RAM
- way more internal storage (no SD slot though)

And tell them they couldn't be more wrong :)

The only advantage of the ACE is it runs android so more open with customisation and more apps to choose from.

The 800 isn't the best phone, but its a great phone at that price point.

You really want to be sat there when she unwraps the phone she specifically said she doesn't want?

Go through hell and get the Lumia.

Thanks for help guys. As I said I know nothing of phones other than iphones are very expensive but apparently very good, and there are Android phones of many different disguises. I thought the talk of a windows phone might need me to put on a flame proof jacket.

Having said that I looking at it now a Nokia Lumia might get me out of the dark ages my self and start using them for more than texts/calls.

Think I might get one myself or two if I can get the old bag mother in law to be to return it.

The only failing of the Lumia 800 is Internet Explorer is poor.

Probably a ton better with windows phone 8 but its not as usable as an Android phone.

But otherwise great phone.

Bought one for myself. As I said I am a phone novice but this thing is right up my street. Within minutes I had my emails, facebook and was tweeting. The SAT Nav is 1st class as well. Also the best camera with flash I have used on a phone.

Phones4U did is an upgrade on pays as you go so it only cost me £139 with a tenners credit. Seriously impressed as I usually struggle to make calls on a modern phone.

I would certainly recommend for anyone like me that is technically challenged with phones.

Glad you like it. Although I will have to disagree with you on the camera front. It is pretty poor in anything but good light, and even then it can get the colours wrong. You must have pretty low standards for phone cameras :p However if you're happy with it that's all matters.

buying one today as a temporary replacement for my slowly dying Blackberry 9900 until I decide where to commit next year... just a temp measure and will resell it in a couple of months for a small loss!

I have found the camera to be pretty good overall, some shots don't come out great in lowish light indoor setting but with flash most shots are good, certainly not as good as the likes of the S/X and GS 3 etc. overall. The 720P recording is also very smooth and produces good results on the whole.

Took this in pretty much pitch black and the colours are spot on!

the problem with windows apps is the app drawer, if you install lets say more than 40 apps you are scrolling forever, not very convenient if you ask me..other than that its fast and its dirt cheap these days

You can 'jump' to apps using the starting letter by pressing one of the letters in the menu. Same in contacts too.
