Crazy to consider a GS2 whilst waiting for nexus stock?

I think I'm just going to get an i9305 from Orange on monday. I just wonder whether its as easy to unlock as the i9300 - ie free!

Really?!!?

I would say that the nexus 4 is a fantastic upgrade over the GS 2:

- s4 quad pro with 2GB, which is noticeable in real world usage (haven't used a N4 myself yet but I can tell the difference between the one S [with S4 chipset dual] and then going by the peoples comments here it sounds to be very snappy/fast)
- audio quality
- build, premium and design (design is subjective)
- nexus device so will get updates fast and be guaranteed to get them
- screen overall (although some might prefer the SAMOLED screen)
- NLED

And for quite a few people, stock android would be a huge advantage.

Camera seems to be more or less the same, although the 1080P recording looks better on the GS 2 in terms of smoothness and light metering.

Thanks! :)

Having upgraded from the S2 to the S3, Yes the processor is faster, the screen is brighter (harder to see in sunlight though). Generally I liked how the s2 felt in my hands, and samsung actually released a bigger battery for it.

You either sit waiting for updates because you want your phone to be the newest thing ever then you get the upgrade and realise all it actually did was add a new button you don't find yourself ever using.

To sum up, I now have an S3, but to say quad core or any of the shiney extras really made a difference over the s2. Not at all.

The S4 pro quad is in a different league to the exynos quad core though :p

I guess it just comes down to what the end user values more then :)

Yup!

Better in every area i.e. power efficiency, heat, performance per core etc. etc. the cpu chipset is next gen tech. (exynos 4 used in the GS 3 is 32nm and S4 quad pro is 28nm) and will be used in most phones coming out next year.

Essentially it is just an improved bigger brother of the dual core krait version, which is used in the likes of the one S, USA GS 3, one XL and the dual core S4 is better on the whole compared to the exynos 4 quad as well, same reasons as above really, more performance per core (more important than an additional 2 cores for android for now...... posted a few articles a while ago, which explained about android, tasks/apps etc. not fulling taking advantage of multi-core CPU's and how there is little benefit of having quad at the minute), power efficiency and heat etc.

When you look at benchmarks of the nexus 4 though, it doesn't look to do too well but that is due to the software optimisation and throttling of it, as time goes on and more software updates come out etc. you can expect performance to improve as it is still very new tech. which needs to be fine tuned even further.

You won't see anything truly beating the S4 pro chipset (on the mobile front) till the GS 4 with its quad Exynos 5 chipset, which will probably be out around May or June.

The GS2 is fantastic. Its the only phone ive had where I'm struggling to justify an upgrade after my 18month contract. Ive just upgraded it to the leaked version Jelly Bean Samsung will be releasing for it next month and my today what an improvement. I'm not convinced project butter makes a huge difference on newer quad core phones but for older dual cores it seems to have made a massive difference. Everything is much much more responsive. Not to mention Samsung have included cool features like smart stay for the GS2 and there is Google Now included too. This update has just made justify upgrading my phone much harder. Which is why I think the update has mysteriously been delayed until January for GS2's. I'm sure its definitely nothing to do with them wanting people to upgrade to the S3!

Thanks for the reply mate.

Sense says to just get the GS2 and be done with it from a £/performace/phone point of view :)

Agreed, I only played about with the JB ROM for the S2 briefly as I wanted ICS back on there when I gave it to my Mum, but from the brief amount of time I did have, it ran very nicely indeed. If I'd known it'd be a significant update like that, I'd very likely have reconsidered getting a Nexus 4.

The difference JB made over ICS on the Gnex was huge - makes it feel like an S3 when scrolling/navigating through menus etc
