Hi guys

ive had this chair for 10 years now i believe best chair ive owned. cost me £129 @ cc with memory foam & leather.

Unfortunately its started to lose its comfort and giving me backaches due to foam dieing

so where are good places to look for office chairs in the UK?

prefer to see & try myself (retail store i guess?):D

I don't know where you could try one out but I bought a second hand
Steelcase Leap Ergonomic Office Chair off the bay after reading another thread on here.

Paid £108 delivered and it's very comfortable.

I got this one from Amazon but slightly different colour and without the red trim. It's a shame Comet has closed now because the ones near me had some fairly ok chairs going for £15 in the closing down sale.

Edit: actually, that's not the exact one I have but I can't be bothered going through 100s of them to find it:p It's almost identical.

edit edit: Ok, I logged in and checked and it seems that they have just updated it slightly, that's showing as the item I purchased

Did the same thing after people recommending them on here. Paid a bit more though as I wanted a brown leather one. Think it came to around £155 delivered. Still not bad for a chair that new is over a grand. So comfortable as well and built to last years.

You used to be able to buy chairs at the purple shirt place, not sure if you can still...maybe at the larger stores?

Although they don't have any on their website.

DO NOT buy chairs from Staples - they are utter crap.

If its really important to you and you use it lots, have a look at a Herman Miller Aeron chair - they are pricey but very good.
Bought a couple of them 5-6 years ago and used daily - no problems.

I like being able to move around in my chair and that looks like you're stuck in one position when you sit in it.

Not for me, I could see it being a nice chair for the workplace though.

If you mean the Aeron then no - it's got castors on it and it swivels.
I frequently scoot around my room on it!

Edit: Ah see what you mean - no it moves in all directions - up/down, tilt back forward etc. Also has adjustable lumbar support (optional extra but good).

for those who might be interested

already had the seat base from my old chair which broke (just make sure the base has a metal "plate" on it to attach the seat) and had some black spray paint lying around to paint the ply wood. The washers are just to spread the weight on the ply, i would probably buy some slightly larger ones if i did it again; these ones are probably fine, but there's next to nothing in the cost so might as well.

How noisy is the steelcase? Does it creak or squeak much?

I would really like to replace my squeaky Marcus.

I don't know, I have never heard it make a noise but I have not been looking for it.

I bought it for the house but had it delivered to my office, however once I sat on it I took my office chair home as I spend much more time in front of the computer at work.
