Hey guys n girls!

I thought to help out the community & the world wide web here.
I called LG regarding the following models:
IPS235V, IPS234V, IPS224V, M2352D

I'm interested in IPS screens rather than TN - and LG is the screens I'm eyeing up, seeing as they make the screens themselves, and provide them to people like ASUS.

Anyway - Here's the information I got from LG - as websites are all misleading (including LG's) in the response time of the IPS's (I know that's important to some, including for myself, not to end up with a 14ms IPS, when for the same money you can buy a 5ms IPS screen).

So here is the information I collected - if you don't believe me, call LG yourselves :)!

First the odd one out:
-M2352D - IPS screen with 5ms response time - and included is a TV tuner, with SCART, 2x HDMI, Antenna, VGA, component (RGB).
LG site: http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-M2352D-monitor-tv

Now for the confusing bits:
The NEWEST IPS screen, as of the 21st of September 2012 is the IPS234V & and the IPS224V - the IPS235V is older and the IPS236V is even older (in fact the 236 is discontinued) - they are working backward with the numbering.
Link to the 236V via LG's site:

Now for the IPS234V & IPS224V difference it is very easy (and this is where LG's site is wrong) - the screen size of the 234V is 23" & the screen size of the 224V is 21.5" - apart from that they are IDENTICAL.

Link to the 224V (21.5"):

And now finally here's what is confusing on all websites I've seen the 235V (23"):
http://www.lg.com/uk/monitors/lg-IPS235V-led-monitor

The 235V is the same spec APART from one very important factor:
The response time on the 235V is 14ms, whereas its newer counterpart, the 234V is 5ms.

Connection wise the 224/234/235/236 are all the same - they have 1x HDMI, 1x DVI and 1x VGA.

I hope this information helps everybody - it sure helped me :)

hey mate,

I just registered to thank you for this info. very helpful. I've been looking at the IPS234v for a while now and found that a lot of sites had different response times listed. thanks for clearing that up.

since you have the 234v and a bit of a gaming machine could you please comment on ghosting issues with this monitor during gameplay? if any? as well as backlight bleeding and overall impressions.

this would help me in my decision as i need a new monitor (my samsung 2494hs is on it's last legs) and i can't decide between the 234v or a faster tn panel. i do a bit of gaming (bf3, dirt 3, crysis,..) and a lot of solidworks and photoshop.

cheers

Hi there,

Pleasure for the help!

The IPS234V is brilliant for me - I've noticed no problems for gaming, no ghosting at ALL, and no back-light bleeding either (with a full black screen).

I game on BF3 and Borderlands 2 on the PC, and on the xbox I game on BF3, Halo 4 and Fifa 11.

As for what display to go for - for pictures and whatnot, this screen is absolutely beautiful. For gaming however, this is a 60hz monitor, thus your FPS will/should be capped at 60FPS, even though most GFX's can go to 120FPS - like my GTX660ti caused a lot of tearing on BF3, as it was producing 80+ FPS.
I thus had to enable vsync for it to be in time with the monitor - thus capping it at 60FPS.

So it is up to you, if FPS is something very important to you, then go for a 120HZ monitor, if it isn't then this screen is absolutely brilliant.

hey,

thanks for your quick reply:) I think for now i'll stick with 60hz monitors as the 120hz ones seem a bit too expensive for me right now. plus from what i understand 120hz really only benefit gamers?? since i do a lot of photoshop as well i think ips looks like a good idea, and i don't mind capping games at 60fps, like you said.

also, a lot of people/reviews complain about the stand being too wobbly. what do you think? is it really as bad?

cheers

wow nice little review. basically all my questions answered. ordered one today and i'm sure i'll love it just as much as you do yours. thanks again for your help keep up the good work mate.

I have a pair of IPS234's and tbh they are superb. No dead pixels or backlight bleed and fantastic image quality. Really impressed for the price.

^Looks lovely mate!

I've been honestly contemplating getting another one - if not for me, for my mum's PC.

EDIT:
Just saw LG are releasing some x1440 IPS screens - they LOOK LOVELY...all apart the price...gulp

I had a Dell 2713 as I was looking to replace the pair off 1080 screens with a single 1440 but found the 1440 to be far to small and not enough desktop space for my usage so stuck with the two 234's.

Well the thing is at that resolution, things will seems clearer, but smaller (to some extent).

Of course two 23" > 1x27", both in "resolution" and amount of screen in front of your eyes

I thought a single higher res screen would be better but having the two screens was better for my research. Being able to use a second screen as an info dump makes so much difference.

Ideally a pair of 1440p screens would be best but I also like the 1080p res for gaming. A single 7950 powers through everything with ease.

Oh indeed!
I think my GTX660ti PE OC can power through it too, but might have a little more trouble at 1440 @ two monitors.
I'm quite happy having one monitor for the time being :)!

Hi all.
I have bought LG IPS224v-PN
And im kinda confused. I've checked LG official page and a lot of others about response time. Solve a mistery for me would ya and please answer this simple and easy question :)
Is it 5 or 14ms response time?

Just wondered if you've tried overclocking it all?

Seriously! My laptop panel does 100hz and is supposed to be 60hz, Asus G73SW with CMO1726 panel.

How would one do this? Without breaking it of cause :p

I think people are getting the misconception.
There is a 75hz option for my LG too.
But that's not "overclocking" it. That's "downlclocking" it as that LOWERS the output resolution (in my case to 720p)
