Help me choose a watch please :)

What would you consider a professional watch? I'm not talking anything that'll be closely inspected at job interviews, just so long as its something that won't stand out as being informal. I'm buying g shock more out if function than anything.

Every man should own three watches.

One for working on the car/DIY and such....
One with a metal strap
One with a leather strap

Depending on occasion depends on which of the metal or leather you use :p

Recently I stumbled upon the Japanese version of it. I was wondering what the differences actually are between the Japanese and EU versions of the watches? The main thing I need to be correct is the date format (DD/MM/YYYY), can anyone confirm whether this is the case with the JP version?
I'd be pretty surprised if the Japanese version wasn't using the standard format for them of YY/MM/DD. It's not a terrible looking watch but if you're wearing anything from business casual or up it's gonna look pretty out of place.

this is watch wisdom, each watch has a purpose, bit like wearing a hooded jacket when its raining, just common sense

Serious watch-action..........

I bought this earlier this year and since getting it, I've not worn my Breitling or Omega watches. It's just something different and I think it's the best looking of the G-Shocks. I'm sure I'll go back to them but this just suits me at the moment.

Dude....its a kids watch.

Buy yourself a Seiko

Yes - it's what all the kids wear when they're serving in the RAF, USAF, US Marines, French Marine commando units, Navy SEALs etc..

OP - don't be put off Casio watches by watch snobs. They're some of the best value, most accurate most reliable watches around. If you want something a bit more dressy you can always try an Edifice instead. In this price range you should also look at Seiko, Citizen and Tissot.

I don't profess to own it........nor would I want to spend that amount of money on one!!!

But I agree, this is a Hovis situation - but I have no doubt that he owns it.

I think what people are saying is that G-Shocks don't look

Thanks for that :)

I did look at it, but it's a bit too dear for what it is, doesn't seem to offer anything more than the watches in the OP. How do you find the watch in terms of functionality?

I'm brown. Silver shiny stuff makes me look as if I'm about to rob a competitors' corner shop :o

Hate leather straps :p

Just a note, I don't think this watch'd look too out of place with my usual suit attire

I want the functionality of digital with the looks of analogue :)

I'll take a look.

I really don't understand some of the watchudice (coinage FTW) in this thread!

Awesome! Thanks for that :)

As for looking out of place, see above, I very much doubt it will :D

Not on you Godfrey, but considering they blend in quite well with my skin they won't look as out of place as they would on those with a lighter complexion :)

I have no idea what your job is, but you wouldn't buy a suit for work that looks awful yet has pockets for absolutely everything you would ever need. Think of that as comparison to a watch for work.

As I have said, watches exist for occasions. A g shock is solid, and actually a pretty good watch, but, unfortunately it's the suit equivalent of the pockets for everything rather than the suit that looks good...

Not sure I'm a big fan of this, but it might be right up your street:

That's really a going out watch though... Not so much a suit thing...

Fair enough, that's a good analogy :)

What I'm trying to say is that, I wouldn't wear this watch for, say, an interview, but, considering THIS is my current watch, with very very few people noticing it's not formal, I think this can only be an improvement :)

Is it that people don't notice though, or don't mention it?

a suit will always be best with a watch on a leather/gator strap

I can never quite decide this one. Leather is much more understated which can be good a lot of the time. I'd probably wear leather for interviews, but oddly for client stuff, I might wear metal.
