*** Official Nintendo Wii U thread ***

I read somewhere online that all digital purchases are still tied to the actual console, and not a digital ID.

Meaning that if you sell your Wii U, you have NO WAY of keeping your purchases or transferring them over to a replacement machine. Much the same way Nintendo done on the original Wii...

Which I learned the hard way.

Anyway, one would have hoped that this policy that was annoying as it was back in 2006, would have been ditched and the big N, would have moved to a more modern system of associating purchases to a form of digital ID.. But nope..

Well I won't be buying any digital purchases. Cheers Nintendo !

Ordered a 32gb premium pack with Mario and ZombiU - should be arriving today - good times ahead!!

^ Do you think the digital purchasing issue is one that could be rectified by Ninty in future - it seems the Wii U has a lot to offer so surely they want to be able to listen to feedback and make changes to the system?

/woop just arrived :D

I doubt it. They had every opportunity to rectify in releasing the Wii U, but chose not too.

I'm sure all the corporate execs sat around a table and decided this way may make them more money, because some people will end up double buying their digital downloads. Which is what i was asked to do by Nintendo themselves, after i sold off my original white wii and replaced it with a black one, a few yrs back.. Without realising this policy was in place. Needless to say after being told i'll need to re-buy my digital downloads by the big N, I told them to F.off. I had about $50 invested in digital downloads as i liked some of the old SNES and N64 titles.

The integration of the Miiverse is just simply superb!

I'm still mesmerised by the quality of some of the drawings people post on there! :D

Thanks for the info jrodga2k5.

I just managed to pick up a ZombiU Limited Edition pack and Mario Bros U for £350. Pretty pleased with that. I've just plugged it in to download the large software update ready for Xmas day. Couldn't get it to connect to the WiFi unless I set a static IP though, very odd.

I'll post back Boxing Day and let you know my thoughts on the console and games.

Merry Christmas.

No problem Telsa :) Glad it helped when making your decision on which one to get!

Is it a Virgin router you're using? Seems to have some problems with them.

Hi,

Yes it's a Virgin Cable router, not the SuperHub, the regular Netgear one with integrated WAP. It's not a problem to use a static IP but could be an issue for a non-IT person.

When shopping yesterday I was surprised by the lack of Wii U material in the supermarkets. I asked the digital/tech guy in one supermarket about bundles and he thought the Wii U was some sort of add-on for the Wii. I thought the Wii U TV ads were very poor and there has been little marketing in normal streams, many people just don't know about it. Maybe Nintendo don't have the budget or have a longer-term plan once more software exists.

Yes that is a good shout by Nintendo to do the system update before wrapping as when I got it on launch day it was just over a gb which is still a pain in the butt if you're on an ADSL connection like me and I would imagine it's around 1.3gb by now?!

So...managed to sit down and finish off ZombiU, loved the game to be honest, very much the survival horror fest I needed!

One of my survivors gained over 11k points and looking back at the deaths (through over confidence and stupidity) I'm convinced I can do it one Life...

However I will attempt that in the New Year, I can finally get down to playing over games now...so heading back to Mario for a bit!

Wow well done,i never seem to get enough time on my own to really give the game a good blast, will rectify that once Xmas is out of the way.

If you're careful and take it slowly I reckon it'll be easy to complete it using one survivor.

Maybe it's worth playing on the one life game.

I completed the game and then attempted the survival mode. Ended up dying just after that zombie party bit :(. The zombies take more hits with the bat than normal mode.

I haven't got round to completing it yet. Was doing alright for a while but now died loads, I think with these few days off I might complete it and then try again without losing so many lives :)

Take it back what I said before about the WiiU, Nintendo Land is immense fun. Mario Chase and the ghost game are incredible fun! Had most the family in stitches :)
