Steam Christmas Sale 2012

Sniper elite any good or is it all about the killcam?

Sort of both...

It's a really fun game (SE v2 I mean here) but I have read some people who liked the first one didn't take to it. I never played 1, so have no basis for comparison. It is however, not perfect.

One of the major flaws is, if you're good at shooter games in general, you don't really need to use all the snipery-cunningy-trappy bits, you can just go gung-ho in most (but not all) missions, so to get the most from it you have to resist the urge a bit, and make sure you enjoy it as intended.

There are other missions (museum and russian sniper team rooftop come to mind) where the game is REALLY punishing on harder difficulty levels. Enemy snipers that spawn as you pass a trigger point and immeditately head-shoot you, would be an example. You can't take them out early as they won't be there, and you can't dodge, it's virtually a scripted nearly-die-every-time.

I bought it full price and didn't regret it, definately got my money's worth I'd say.

If you're squeamish or just if it annys you I believe you can turn off the excellent, painful looking killcams or reduce their frequency. I left it on max, because I'm mean like that.

Uplay but steam wont be meeting a better price than that.

Having used it for both Anno 2070 and Far Cry 3 I have to say it isn't as bad as you'd think. Even with the Steam versions you end up using it to launch Anno 2070, which is a bit counter productive, however it is just a case of clicking a single play button a popup once it is setup. Not sure about Far Cry 3 on Steam as I got that dirt cheap, which ended up being uPlay, however because of the price I paid I wasn't fussed about what it used.

I've purchased one game which was the universe creator.... This is the least amount of games I've purchased during a steam sale... To be fair I already own most of the other decent ones on sale. Think the one I'm looking out for is DarkSouls.

Yup - I'm feeling exactly the same about Anno. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it in the sale, then I was gutted when I saw it was only 60%. Like you, I may cave in yet.

Just snagged Dragon Age though. It's a no-brainer for that price...

Really you want to get the anno pack because it saves you 10 pound but you don't get the delux edition then.

I am also torn by dragon age. I've played it several times and I loved it, one of the best games I've ever played, but I kinda feel it should be sub £5. It's an old game now.

:EDIT

Just bought anno pack. XD

I think I'll take that advice. If it would make me half as angry as that Origin ***p from EA, it would be worth giving a miss.

it not that it doesnt work but it just way more complicated that it needs to be.

Check this post it is not as convient as steam

It took me an hour to find out how to activate a game with CD key.

Yeah it was the Ultimate Edition but it appears to have finished (must have been a flash sale), I'm sure it'll come around again as it's normally on offer. Wouldn't be surprised if it turns up at somewhere else like GMG or Gamersgate... in fact I think GG have DA:O Ultimate + DA2 for £8.99, but activates on Origin.

I've already bought / played it ages ago, one of my favourite games, was just in case MumboJumbo was looking for it.

I wouldn't say the DLC is essential and a lot of it can be picked up when the world events come around (assuming they are still doing this). The DLC is on offer in most sales anyway, so you can always pick it up at a later date.

I went all out and bought the complete pack. Not really bought much else this sale so thought I might as well!

If you like Diablo 2 + 3 make sure you check out Titan's Quest if you dont already have it. Think it comes with the Immortal throne exp as well.

This is turning out to be the poorest steam sale yet, the last one was epic and I spent close to £50. Not bought a single thing so far, I'm really hoping for a good deal on Black Ops 2 and certainly better than -17% amongst others
