no to the first question, and if its a s/n then also no to the second if it uses only that for protection, most now log something of the pc when you reg it, do it on 2 pc's could get one or both to run out, they spend money making sure you dont do it, even though may try.
it will be one of those things you try and see if it works, if it doesn't it may lock one or both.

ps, bundled software is only 8/10/12 basic, not ultra, no idear whats extra either

VLC can be used for blu-ray playback apparently

Can be used... but in 99.9% of cases it doesn't work because of DRM issues and the like. I've yet to have a single Blu-ray successfully work in VLC.

PowerDVD is pretty much bloatware these days. Full of completely useless privacy invading addon's (Moovie Live!?, why yes it really is a good idea to track each and every disk I ever play, and then report that information to a webserver somewhere, so you can be targeted for more 'related' adverts).

If you have the s/n, just block PowerDVD in your firewall (I STRONGLY suggest you do this anyway), and enter the code (the program only checks the code is valid and registers it (unless they changed it recently), with no net access it can't call home.)

I'd love to say get the Standard version, but I'm guessing that U need Deluxe or Ultra to play 5.1 sound or sommat.

"Ultra", "Pro" and "Standard". All editions support the viewing of DVD. The Ultra and Pro editions support Blu-ray playback, including the playback of Blu-ray 3D content

theres a hack so it can play encrypted blurays

Cyberlink support is pretty appalling (check out their own forums for many examples of this!) they usually release a new version you have to buy than fix serious issues with the existing version & or take 3-4 months to patch for new releases (Star Wars for instance had issues for 2-3 months before it was fixed which left many unable to even play some of the 6 movies).

Buy DVD Fab Passkey for HD then you can decrypt the discs yourself & play in a freeware player usually you just need to find the largest .mts file (that will be the movie) if your not bothered about extras/7.1 soundtracks that is otherwise your stuck with PowerDVD, Total Media Theatre or WinDVD make sure you buy the full version of any of these otherwise you find some features like the ability to play the full 7.1 soundtrack or 3D are missing on the cheaper versions  expect to pay close to £70-80 for a decent playback software :(

Have a look on amazon they also sell the boxed copies for a similar price.

The VLC hack works but only on pre 2012 Blu-rays for now. No BD+ support I think.

Tried DaPlayer on Dark Knight Rises and it just crashes.

great to see the move companies embracing modern technology with blurays!

I mean great to see them bending the consumer over and wondering why so much bdrips get pirated

Power dvd is rubbish. I got it with my laptop and none of the blu-ray disk I tried world play. I tried a trail of a player (cannot remember what its called) and it worked for all of them. The one that worked was £100! So I just rip them to the hard drive and play them with Vlc.

Microsoft should release a br playback addon for 40 quid or something, but they never will.

I use anydvdhd (lifetime licence) and mpc-hc,

I've never had to pay for crap software that plays Blu Ray discs on my HTPC. I use MPC-HC or MPC-BE and AnyDVD HD (which has a small lifetime cost).
