I don't get the tubes

Victoria to Paddington won't be less than a tenner surely? Looking at about a fiver for two people to take the tube for that route with oyster, no?

Less than that, it's zone 1 to zone 1 so £2 each max... A taxi will probably be £10 minimum (think they start on around £4...) and will probably take longer (from my experience with London cabs...)

If you have iOS or android download tube map. It knows what's close, times etc just type in where from/to and it'll tell you best routes.

Looking at the link rG posted it could be £8 in good traffic. As I said, it depends when you go and how many people. £8 / 3 = £2.67 each for (potentially) most convenient is hard to beat.

Maybe, depends. I take taxi as a preference if I can, especially if it's going to work out insignificantly different in price! I've no idea if the OP will have luggage, needs to walk at the end to get where they want etc.

Appreciate this is late, but for future reference.

£12-14 quid during usual mon-fri times.

Most of the area around Victoria will be like 28 days later for traffic volume. Even more quiet than a Saturday/Sunday I'd imagine. No one will be using shops on Victoria Street for boxing day shopping I'd imagine.

Regarding using the Circle Line, I used to do that when I didnt know London and was new to it, now I avoid it at all costs. You can wait as long for a Circle Line train at Paddington as it would take to do the whole Journey on the Bakerloo and Victoria Lines.

In both directions on that change there is a cross platform walk through which is a lot faster than most other interchanges (going up and down a million escalators)

As PMKeates has said though, on quiet days, if there is ever more than 1 person just use a cab, quicker, easier, and less tramps that stink of ****. I would bet that would be a sub £10 journey. Next time I'm working around Victoria and I'm getting a train back home from Paddington I'll take a cab and check the price.

If it was me travelling i'd definitely end up stuck in horrendous traffic and it would take twice as long than the tube :(

Twice as long? Read 4x for me the last few times I went in... Taxis are great if the tubes are shut but otherwise for personal preference I would choose tube every single time! And it's cheaper...

You would elect to travel with the hoards of scumbags on the tube, over your own private carriage?

Yes, especially if it takes significantly less time... And besides the tube is empty 90% of the time, even most lines at rush hour are pretty deserted if you avoid the central, Piccadilly and a few bits of other lines.

looooool

That's utter rubbish I'm afraid :D

Things are 'deserted' if you are going places nobody else wants to go!

For example from kings cross at 8.30 in the morning on the met/circle/hammersmith and circle? on the other hand I used to do the same on the Piccadilly line and it was rammed. Some lines are busier than others, obviously because less people want to go that way or because there are more tubes (and some trains are significantly bigger than others)... As I said a pot of tubes are still empty at rush hour if you avoid the hotspots... (and I work in a hotspot...).

My point is you can't generalise the tube, however it is generally faster and a lot cheaper than a taxi if you avoid certain lines at certain times of day. However I get it, some people are adeverse to publci transport, whereas I would rather train it than drive on most occasions, cheaper, comfort and usually a much better view...

For commuters, though, the met/circle/ham city is only really useful for those working in the City so Moorgate & Liverpool Street. The majority of commuters will be getting a train directly into Moorgate anyway so of course going East on the those lines will be quiet.

The Piccadilly line will of course be rammed because from that point it is serving a much greater area and number of stations (west end etc.). The ones you selected will be only used for those working in farringdon/barbican at best and at half 8 the majority of city workers are already there.

This is from personal experience, btw..I agree you can't generalise the tube, but those are poor choice IME. There will be very few quiet lines/stations in the morning, unless you are travelling in the opposite direction to 90% of the population.

8:30? Almost everybody is going to be walking to their offices at that time! :p

I would not recommend driving in the busiest periods, but nothing beats driving when it's quiet. You can get across London in fantastically quick times in enormously more comfortable conditions than the tube. I can be dry, have a heated seat, controlled climate, nobody sneezing on me, Radio 4 etc.
