Will God accept you if you renounce religion?

I think I am right in saying that religion is man made and is a way to control people and get them to kill people of different faiths, groups, sexes, and generally oppress people.

Can you believe in God but not be affiliated to a religious cult like the Jewish, Christian or Islamic cults?

Interesting question.

Doesn't the bible come out with all the rubbish that he loves you all blah blah, by extension belief shouldn't matter and you are guaranteed a ticket at the top table regardless.

I try to live my life well, be nice to people. Not because god or Jesus said to, but because it is the right thing to do. I don't believe in any deity any more.

That said, if I am wrong, and when I die I get to the pearly gates to be judged, I would hope that I would be judged on how I lived, not how I (didn't) worship. If my lack of worship *is* an issue, heaven wouldn't be all that great anyway, just full of people that are only nice for personal gain. You would be spending eternity surrounded by people you know full well are only nice because it gets them something.

What utter rubbish.
You thinks very single religious person is nice for personal tai. You don't think there could be any person like you, who also has a believe.

What an utterly stupid thought process you took to arrive at a crazy conclusion.

The Jehovah Witness' are not a Cult in the traditional sense of the word, they are a Restorationist Christian Denomination. However it can be argued that many restorationist denominations also fit many of the social criteria of a Cult, other denominations that would also be considered thus are the Christadelphian, Latter Day Saints and The Brethren.

They are generally rejected by mainstream Christianity, with most mainstream and liberal Christian Movements rejecting their interpretations as being Christian at all, particularly the Jehovah's Witnesses as they have altered the Bible without the required justification, either theologically or more importantly lingustically.

As for the OP, you do not need organised religion to hold a belief in God, and if we look at Christianity in particular, Jesus did not create a religion, but preached a ministry....one which it can be argued is opposed to organised religion insofar that religion seeks to bind its adherents to God in a common path, whereas Christ taught that it was up to the individual to find their own path to God. This is one of the basic ideas behind Evangelism (and I don't mean the conservative kind often seen in the US) and formed the basis of the anti-clerical movement amongst Christians. Essentially Religion is a social and cultural manifestation rather than a spiritual one, you do not have to belong to an organised Church to be a Christian for example.

You serious?

Pretty much. They're the closest to a cult out of the recognized religions.

You only need to speak to ex-JWs to understand how much control they try and impose on to followers.

If you live a good life, and God is real, why would he care if you believed him or not, he would judge you on your actions not your beliefs. If he doesn't, then why care if he accepts you? He is not a God worth caring about.

I like this quote:

Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?

I like this quote:

It's a pretty rubbish quote though.
It's possible say for the government to do lots of things, but they don't due to freedom. It can be said god is exactly the same. God interfering in that way would remove people's right to have free will. You're also totally ignoring the god vs satan war, at least In the Christian faith.
