Need a new GPU for my new build. I have under £400 to play with at the minute to get a new card so I am looking at either a 7970 or a 680 but I want to know which will be better to put in crossfire later down the line.

My build will be used mainly for gaming and my setup is as follows:

i7 3770k, MSI Z77A-G43 mobo, 16gb ram.

I think people will recommend you go for 2x7950, which is almost within your budget now, and will be only slightly less powerful than 2x7970 or 680.

If you stick with the single card option, 7970 is easily the more powerful card now, if willing to use 12.11 drivers, and cheaper than the 680. At single monitor resolutions there might not be much in it, but if you are planning to go triple monitor, even the 7950 CF beats 680 SLI, so no point going nVidia.

1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) with FREE FARCRY3, Hitman Absolution, Sleeping Dogs £239.99

Hitman, FarCry 3 and Sleeping Dogs are thrown in too v's heehaw nothing at all with the 670, add the ~£40 value for the games along with the £60=~£100 real world cheaper than the 670 above.

^
2 of them, sell a set of games~£440 or sell both sets of games takes you bang on target@~£400 for 7950 CrossFire-can't be touched for the money.

Seen as though the experts forgot to ask, what resolution are you/will you be using?

But what tommybhoy said is the best option.

I've got 2 HIS 7950's as above and they work nicely - big brutes though so make sure you have room in your system/mobo.

Coz I got 2 I have a set of the free games I don't need - wheres the best place to find a buyer and what they worth?

There's a reason the XFX ones are generally a lot cheaper...

To put it in simple terms:

1 7950 = 95% (£230)
1 680 = 100% (£350)
1 7970 = 100% (£330)
I'm not sure I quite understand your point. Do you mean that for the £260 the XFX one won't be running at 100% like other higher priced 7970s?

It's a rubbish card with a rubbish cooler and generally a bad warranty situation :(

If alls well and good then yes it would be a great bargain :)

Not sure if anyone else mentioned it or not but isn't a g43 one of the worst motherboards out there? I would get something better for 3770k and dual graphics

Also I would not get xfx they can be really nasty when something go's wrong. I got refused warranty on my 5week old card :(
