So are you suggesting that I shouldn't wait to hear back from ScottiB for confirmation. I should just go ahead and take apart my friends card just on the say so of some guy on a forum.
At least after ScottiB gets back to me I will feel more comfortable knowing that I haven't invalidated a warranty just on some guys say so.

I'm confused: you're saying on the say of "some guy" on a forum but that's exactly who you're waiting to hear back from... the same "some guy" who's already said it's OK.

It is a bit strange, waiting for a word of conformation from some guy...by asking, the same guy for a word of conformation :D
Even though, said guy has already given his word that it's ok to reapply the tim :p

Besides, how will they know?? It's 4 screws.
 
I'm waiting to hear back from ScottiB, hopefully he will use a work Email address which helps confirm MSI's agreement.

As for how will they know, it's a friends card if for whatever reason a fault develops and the warranty isn't upheld I will be the one to foot the bill, so forgive me if I want to do all I can to make sure.
You really think they can't tell if the cooler has been removed and the TIM replaced. :rolleyes: If a card has a fault they will remove the cooler to try to fix it then they can easily see that the TIM has been replaced.
 
Well he is officially MSIs rep on the forum kind of confirmed by the title 'MSI Rep' he has under his forum name.

I think you're just being a bit daft over it. He's confirmed it's OK on the forum and MSI aren't really renown for being a crap company or anything :).

When I sent him a trust message (to ask him to post in that thread) the reply wasn't from an @msi address so you may be waiting a long time for not a lot that's all.
 
I've applied Arctic MX-4 on my MSI 7950 TF3 but it didn't make a big difference. I've just been playing Hitman Absolution for 2 hours with the case open and the max temperature was 82°C, at 880/1250 stock speed.

I'm personally not worried about losing the warranty. You don't break any seal, just take care that you don't physically damage the card and that you apply suitable thermal paste.
I had Arctic Silver 5 lying around but I didn't risk applying that.
 
Makes sense - I thought the problem was with the contact between the GPU and the cooler as opposed to just the TIM.

spoffle re-applied TIM on two of his cards and only had a marginal drop in temperatures but it is worth trying at least especially as they've given a free pass for it.

Yeah, the difference on one of them was better than the other, the TIM Was really badly applied and there were fingerprints all over the heatsink in the grey TIM they used.

Personally, I Don't believe the TIM is responsible for the whole issue, I replaced it and it made a marginal difference, it seemed like it was working at first, but load temps were just ridiculous.
 
Yeah, I have just ordered some Arcticlean and some MX-4, so I will be reporting back with my temperature drop at idle and load (if there is any) once I get back to my desktop at uni.
