Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Got my Asus RT-N56U (and some Haribo) this morning :) So finally put the Virgin Media super dud into modem mode. What a difference! The wifi is in a different league on the Asus. Fast, consistent and a decent range with no drop outs :)

got the same one, does make a difference, sadly does not help my current issue..

Yay! BT have pushed back the fibre install for my cabinet again. :).

Stuck with Virgin for at least another three months it seems, they've acknowledged my UBR is congested (on their forum) but won't do anything about it until it gets worse. 0.o.

Joy.

Just been upgraded to 60mb, but the downside is I now have to use one of those godawful 'super' hub things

The wifi on these things is absolutely shocking and certainly not fit for purpose! Basically, unless i'm sitting right next to the damn thing the signal strength is terrible and the connection randomly drops.

I've tried switching between channels and various other things but with little joy. I'll be configuring it to modem mode and using a separate wifi router I think

Don't suppose you're in the Walsall/Willenhall area are you?
My post code says my area will be done by end of dec 12. The other night I had no net all night and then it came back on and it hits 2.2Mb within seconds but no further. I feel like my areas been done and I need to do something to get the 60 to kick in!
I've tried a reboot but all that did was switch off my wireless which I had to put back on and now all wireless things in the house say they are connected but NOTHING can actually get a webpage to load!!!

Ah nope, i'm in Cambridgeshire. What modem / router do you currently have? For 60mb you will need VM's (not so) super hub. I was perfectly happy with my old router / modem combo but VM instructed that I needed the super hub for my 60mb upgrade.

Got myself an Asus RT-N56U router now and wifi is again useable :) Just a shame it cost me £80 to be able to use my service properly

Youtube is better now but still not quite right. It now seems to do nothing for 5 -10 seconds and then the buffer shoots straight to the end.

Urgh so the vip package is going upto £110/m for me in april. I can't afford it so I'm looking at leaving for sky. The only reason I pay for sports is so I can get the f1 and I only need the HD pack with sky to have it. Plus having that streaming with sky player would be a nice addition. I'm having trouble giving up the tivo though.......What do virgin do if you try to cancel? Is it ever anything like half price?

When I cancelled my Virgin Media TV package the only thing they offered me was not to add the increase of £6 or so. Wasn't enough to make me stay. It won't be very hard to leave the TiVo, the new SKY boxes are much better. Faster, catch up services are all in integrated into the SKY UI and the picture quality is better.

pahahaha they offer me £6 non increase and I'm using the get out clause. Looks like I'm going over to sky which to be honest has a faster upload speed than even 120mb and I've heard better wireless

Cheers mate, I actually have the superhub already as about 2 months ago my virgin modem broke and the guy who came out just gave me a superhub! I can connect wirelessly now btw!

Just had a nice Christmas surprise from Virgin, been upgraded to 120/10. I was on the 50/5 package which was upped to 100/5 and only thought I would be getting 100/10.

Very happy overall with my internet. No issues and good speeds all day long.

Guess I have to go through the crap support now to get it checked.

That looks normal for a area with heavy congestion.

Don't bother calling up, there is nothing they can do apart from upgrade the network which is not going to happen.

you are right it was a waste of time calling them. they told me my area is over utilized and i have to monitor the issue for a week and call them back.
I am getting 18% packet loss at the moment.

@KIA, yes iI saw that and I am checking this out and switch if I can but the BT checker doesn't work for my postcode so maybe that not a good sign already.
