7850 owners how does it run far cry 3?

okeys thanks, using the latest beta drivers with the fc3 cap, i get around 28fps on ultra no aa, its playable it looks so good on ultra, lol

I don't know,it wouldn't be that much slower,I used to have a 5870 and the 7850 is noticeably better,a z77/3570k would improve things more though

Single HD 7850 overclocked to 1150/5500mhz gets around 55FPS. Overclocked or stock HD 7850's in crossfire stutters like crazy in DX11 mode. When ran in DX9 mode I get 100+FPS. Single overclocked HD 7850 in DX9 mode gets 65FPS. The only difference between DX9 and DX11 that I see is the lack of AA and Ambient Occlusion.

cheers for the info, I think my phenom 2 [email protected] is causing a bottleneck on fc3, I dont think i,ll get your fps with this cpu :-(

Find out what kind of FPS the CPU can get, turn your settings down to low and run a smaller res, like 1280x720, smaller still if you want....basically try and get yourself CPU bound.

That should give you an idea whether upgrading GPU will be beneficial.

I was thinking more along the lines of an i3 2120/3220, its hard to find benchmarks at 1080p ultra and no aa both for cpu/gpu, but those i3,s are destroying phenoms in benchmarks, damn means almost complete upgrade.

Probably because CPU benchmarks are done at a lot lower res, pointless comparing CPUs when you're GPU bound :D

Do as i said in my previous post ^

I don't think you'll manage ultra on an i3,I have another 7850 running on a i3 540 not overclocked and far cry3 is running on optimal settings

If your gonna upgrade id get the 7850 first then see how it performs then I'd upgrade to a z77 board and a quad 3570k CPU

Or stick it out untill the 8 series cards and haswell come out,it will push ivy bridge prices down or you could go haswell

Cheers for the info, I kinda did already mines a [email protected] b.e edition im using stock heatsink default volts, just upped the multi, i tried it at 3.8ghz and there was a diff but it crashed, cpu temp goes too high. I guess I could go the route of better heatsink&increasing cpu voltage to get it stable, but those i3,s seems so cost effective when looking at price and benchmarks.

the i3 2120/3220 seems to perform very well, i think the 540 is about the same as my phenom? I think your right though proberly better getting a 7850 first and see how it performs, been offered vtx oc edition it has 1ghz on core as default that should do the job.
