I didn't think Butlins knew what music they'd chosen, not realising it was the trololol music. Then I read this

http://www.marketingmagazine.co.uk/News/MostEmailed/1164547/Butlins-returns-TV-altruistic-mission/

Kepinska-Smith said the ad was a demonstration of the favoured phrase of the brand's founder Billy Butlin, which he quoted from Shakespeare, namely, "Our true intent is for all your delight."

She said the music from 'Trololo', the viral hit fom Russian singer Eduard Khil singing in a 1970s recording, "can’t help but make people smile". She added that the TV ad iwas designed to "provide a free sample of the feeling people get of being on a Butlin's holiday".

That feeling that they've been trolled ?

It's hilarious. I knew that they can't keep it up, they are trolling us!

Also, I found a higher quality video of it:

What happened here is that the Creative Exec who was assigned from the Ad Agency to undertake the work for Butlins couldn't think up his/her own idea. Instead they looked to the internet for something viral and figured they could shoe-horn it in. For those who already know the song, they will simply make threads on forums, or post comments on YouTube about trolling etc. Those who haven't seen it before may just find the song catchy.

Ultimately it's somewhat suceeded either way as we are now talking about the Ad. The Creative Exec will no doubt be hailed a creative genius and will receive a handsome payment for their work.

This kind of thing goes on all the time. Another recent example would be EE's Fenton advert... Talk about flogging a dead horse that everybody rode and then died months ago.
