After thinking a lot about it and using facetracknoir for a while I really think trackir would be a good buy as I play a lot of simulation game.

Mostly DCS A10 warthog, rise of flight and arma 2.

Anyone got trackir and what do you think about it after owning it for a while?
Was it worth the price? as it will cost me £125 for the pro version now.

Thank you.

If as you say you play a lot of sims, especially flight games then yes I'd say it was worth it. I use it with Rise of Flight and it really makes it a lot more enjoyable once you get used to using it and the movement becomes really natural. It also makes it easier to be more aware of your surroundings as its so easy to look around. So for me, with Rise of Flight, it was worth it.

The one negative I have with it is the TrackClip Pro (set of LEDs on a plastic arm that clip to the side of your headset for the camera to track your head movement) is quite fragile, fortunately when I caught the arm of mine it didn't break the wire inside it so I could just glue it back on but you need to be careful with it.

From a quick search the £119.99 seems to be the best price I can find for it new. Some do come up on Ebay occasionally if you want to risk a second hand one.

If you are going to have lots of games which use it then it is well worth it if you can afford it. I haven't seen what it is like for infantry (although I bought arma 2 this week so will find out soon) but for flight sims it is so much better although once you start you may find it hard to do without it again. I played planetside last week and went in an aircraft and with no ability to look around I found it almost unflyable. It makes that much of a difference.

I did initially use facetrackir but it was unreliable and insanely took about 33% of cpu use on an i5 2500k on it's own. Trackir takes hardly any cpu power and works perfectly.

I bought AC-10 yesterday and after seeing how complicated it is if you are going to that much length to learn how to fly and maintain the alleged most accurate sim ever you may as well go for the full immersion experience and get track ir with 6dof.

Although I keep my trackclip pro in the box, the default hat clip works perfectly for me and when I have tried to use the pro clip it has had dodgy moments from time to time. I wouldn't call it essential unless you are a gamer who wears headphones/microphones and doesn't want to wear a cap.

Cheers blackadderV.

I also got the dcs A10 sim about 4-5days ago from dcs website sale and I am playing in sim mode and doing all the training.

That's why I started to use facetrack, but after a while facetrack problems don't help but make it harder at times to play.

I think I will go for it and just see how I get on with it.

Thanks.
And done :D

i hardly ever use mine, but i did get a cheap baseball hat (from here ironicaly), and cut it up so its just a like a poker style hat, but fabric, and used black duct tape to stick on the reflector thingy for hats.

cut the hat up so i didnt get so hot and turn into kurt busch :D

They changed the plastic used in the construction of the pro clip a while back, it's supposed to be far less likely to break these days and my replacement certainly bears witness to that, I've managed to snag it and drop it more than a few times with breakage unlike the original one I had.

Ok well thats good, but I'd still recommend being careful a replacement is around £35 iirc.

Enjoy it GothicGhost! :D Just give it time for you to get used to it.

That sound good and I do have kids so it will hidden when I am not using it lol.

From I read people feel sick when using it but facetrack does the same but I never had a problem with that.
It just made me think that if facetrack is this good with all it's problems the real product got to be worth buying as it make flying that A10 so much better.

Should be here this week if I am lucky :D

Cheers.

Track IR is essential for flight sims that employ it. I got a 4 Pro when they were released and can't fly without it.

Can't wait for it to come now lol

But it gives me time to finish my little setup with 2 monitors the second to show the mfds and I have a second keyboard that acts like one big control panel for most of the important systems.

I thought it would not come today but :D

I used an old xbox 360 headset to mount the track clip pro when not using my headphones.

Downloading drivers and give it go in a bit :)

Cheers.

For Rise of Flight Requiem has posted some of his TrackIR profiles in this thread, I find the 6DOF one the best but obviously its a case of trying them and finding your personal preference.

Good luck :D

I find adding a bit of exponential to the curves helps. Make sure you lower the movement around centre (so they're shaped like a gentle V) otherwise you'll get a bad neck trying to hold it at centre.

Will do :) Just breaking up the xbox headset so it better for what I need it for.

Taken off the ear piece and used fabric tape to make it soft on the right side.

I'm the opposite, has to be a nice flat line all the way, anything else just feels wrong.
