Hi,

I am looking to build a basic media center PC, this is what I have specified, slight overkill in certain areas, but I also want it to be able to play some more modern games at low/moderate settings and have some future proofing.

Looks good to me! I've just upgraded to an AMD A4-5300 and have to say I'm very impressed with it so far, I also have a 60GB Agility 3, and it flies along very nicely with XBMC and WMC :) I have that case as well, nice looking case with plenty of room, I'd recommend you get 4x 80mm fans and a fan controller though.

I have these:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Lian Li PT-FN03 PCI Fan Controller - Black £12.98
1 x Fractal Design 80mm Silent Cooling Fan £6.98
Total : £29.27 (includes shipping : £7.75).

And with the fan controller turned right down, the fans are utterly silent.

The only things I see missing is a PSU and a CPU cooler. PSU you may already have and a CPU cooler will be included with your CPU but a replacement will keep it cooler and be quieter :)

You can use 1600mhz RAM but the IGP wants faster stuff especially if you want to game, that samsung RAM is overpriced IMHO. That case can take bigger than mini-itx but be careful on the PSU as it has to be no longer than 140mm

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A10-5800K Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket FM2) APU Trinity Quad Core Processor (AD580KWOHJBOX) £95.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) £72.98

1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 430w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020058-UK) £38.99
Total : £533.86 (includes shipping : FREE).

Check the PSU is ok, the non modular version I know is 140mm long, not sure about this modular one so check with OCuk or do some googling. Hope this helps

I just fitted that PSU to that case with no issues. Any optical drive would need right-angle connectors though.

Ah I see! That PSU is fantastically quiet though! The noisiest thing in my HTPC is the hard drive now, well happy :)

Thank you for the replies,

@ R-evans, I am keen to go AMD due to the APU performance of the A10-5800K.

I forgot about the PSU! Definately a modular one though, I am happy to go Micro ATX, wasn't sure if the case would accept it, is the Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H the best motherboard to go for? Max RAM speed is 1800 on this by the looks of things.

Also, not sure what CPU cooler would fit, and would suit this build the best?

Re the RAM, I hear the Samsung Green's are good for 2400 hence which when reading the OCuK description of the A10 seems like a must.

I have a Lian Li Fan controller, but would need some decent 80mm fans.

Chris.
