Have you ever really struggled with a game only to figure out your problems are caused by a huge oversight?

I was getting extremely frustrated with ME yesterday and ended up repeating two parts of a mission about 15 times each before I finally beat it. Afterwards I suddenly noticed an icon in the bottom left corner and looked up what it was.

Oh... grenades. I have grenades? Oh FFS! :D

I'd got up to Level 13 on normal difficulty without realising this. :(

Happened to me in COD:W@W,

I think at one stage you have to get a flamethrower and burn a bunker, completely missed it and was just shooting endlessly for ages, until i realised what i was doing wrong, i felt like a proper div.

Nothing matches whoever on here accidently did the hovercraft section in HL2 without the hovercraft and wondered why there was so much walking :D

I nearly did the same with the buggy until something in my brain clicked and I realised I could lift the buggy up with the crane. Cue me running back for a few minutes to retrieve it.... :D

DOOM - 1993, I was 12, our first PC, all gaming before then was on C64/NES/SNES/Master System/Megadrive/Acorn/Amiga and I'd never played anything like it before. Suddenly there was no Joystick/Pad and we had to use the keyboard! Oh wait... there's a door to get out... how do we open it? Shoot it? No... Run at it? No... Is there a pressure plate or something somewhere? No... A button? No... Oh wait! It's opened! ARGH a Zombie! BANG BANG... phew... oh no the door has closed again... How do I get another zombie to open it for me? Hmmm....

About an hour later...

Well this is stupid... /mashes keyboard... door opens...

Whaaaaaa!!!

/systematically presses every key on the keyboard until...

SPACEBAR!!! WOO HOO!!!

:D

Hahaha... did Raymond ever get past the bridge bit? :D

Actually, did he ever manage to complete HL2 because some of the "puzzles" later on are not that obvious at first!

Priceless!

One game.. T2 on the snes. I only ever played the first level as Iddidn'tkknowwwhat to do.

FC3 the other night, whilst on the way to grab a bow and arrow to kill the golden tiger......i blow him up with a grenade first
*facepalm*

just finished playing ac3 all the way through without realising that they had changed how the combat system worked and so struggled all the way through with many reloads of saves thinking that the game was rubbish or that id maybe had a stroke or something and not noticed

then played farcry3 all the way through without realising that you could "popup" over cover by holding the RMB while crouched near walls and had instead been walking around like I was the terminator

sadface

I got stuck on Goldeneye for about a month on the first level, threw away the manual so I didn't know you pressed B to open the big doors....

Thats a thought, I had James Bond Tomorrow never dies on ps1, one of the first missions you pick up a brief case, I looked in so many guides and it said to smash the window. Walked up to a window it and tried smacking it and it just wouldn't break.

Turns out there was one small little window next to it that you had to smash, i could tell because there were some big green arrows around it that i never saw.
