Tv has all of a sudden broken

It's difficult to say whether that is a faulty panel or faulty circuitry, you could replace some circuit boards/LVDS cables and it turns out to be the panel, you're out of pocket and vice versa. TV's are too cheap now to **** around with, buy a new one.

If it's in warranty make a claim. If it's within 3 years make a claim using that EU legislature. If it's not take the back off and look for obvious signs of fault, bulged capacitors normally being an obvious and easy repair.

Also before doing any of that make sure all cables are plugged in and seated correctly, if this is the case turn it off; there is no need to cause any further damage.

If after all of this you still have a crappy TV, take it on the chin and buy a new one. Most items do unfortunately have a shelf life.

vertical drive board has most likely gone

FYI , the more you switch it off and on the more likely you are to cause more damage
