That's a considerable long straight. As with all of these types of situations an on board camera would be extremely interesting, but if the vehicle you were overtaking was doing circa 40mph then he was being an absolute imbecile for accelerating after travelling way under the speed limit.

See above my comments regarding me already travelling at the speed limit, I like a bit of fun with people who are not happy with my crossing country at the speed limit.

Dangerous but to each their own. I have a motto myself that I treat every car like a undercover police car so when sitting behind someone that's keeping up with the speed limit I'll never pass them.

In the same regard I don't think I'd ever find myself speeding up to stop someone over take me if they felt the urge.

Only as dangerous as overtaking someone doing 75mph on a NSL. But each to their own.

I never confirmed to what speed I would accelerate to.

My car doesn't like going at 70 on a motorway in 5th let alone 75mph in 4th. As such engine braking paid a big part in my reduction in speed. I completed the overtake with some room to spare before the camera but with someone right up my rear I chose not to break. As I've admitted - there's a couple of things I could have done differently. I'm not without fault here - and I'll happily admit one of them could be my exact recall of the speeds I was doing. I am however not purposely over or under exaggerating, it would serve no purpose here.

You were unfortunately doing the other driver a favour by not braking, in turn getting flashed.

I apologise for appearing to jump to any conclusions, and in the heat of moment details get hazy, I appreciate that.

It's not 'a bit of fun', you're a dangerous moronic ****. It is as simple as that.

The increased danger with the party accelerating and speeding over the NSL is more prevalent in my opinion. Especially considering the type of person willing to do this, they are typically boy racers who will continue to do so through their entire journey and future journeys. Keeping them at bay literally saves lives.

Ah so you're an Officer of the SARP (Self Appointed Road Police). If you want to police the roads, why not join the service? Until then, how about you stop trying to cause accidents?

You are an idiot, deliberately preventing people overtaking by speeding up is a vastly more dangerous behaviour than someone driving slightly faster than the speed limit.

Not to mention the bizarre logic that you consider driving faster than the speed limit to be so dangerous it warrants you doing your best to teach them a lesson yet to do so you... drive faster than the speed limit.

The level of absolutely moronic type of thought that must lead you to thinking your behaviour is any way sensible, justified or just having fun, genuinely worries me.

The overtakee in the OP was encouraging the OP to overtake, I don't do this at all, I do not try to cause accidents whatsoever.

You deliberately speed up when people try to overtake you, that is exactly what you are doing - deliberately creating dangerous situations that lead to increased risk of an accident.

Still ignoring the RTA which has been explained earlier in the thread. So you're also breaking the law. Two wrongs don't make a right.

Sure. Fun, though.

I'd be interested to see if you still think it's fun when you're confronted with either the carnage of a high speed head on collision that you've caused by putting them into the path of oncoming traffic, or a rapidly approaching tree/ditch when they've barged you out of the way to avoid said oncoming traffic.

I know if I was the person overtaking and some idiot put me in danger by accelerating alongside me, their safety would be the last thing on my mind.

If you really think that driving at 75mph is in itself dangerous, never mind as dangerous as deliberately attempting to cause a high speed crash, then you really shouldn't be on the roads.

Why does this worry you? Are you the type to attempt such a situation?

Please stop with the name calling.

You seem to be missing the fact that if you're forcing the overtaker to be on the wrong side of the road, you're also increasing the risk to any innocent motorists coming the other way.

Regardless of which, it is none of your business what speed other motorists drive at providing they aren't causing a direct danger to you, which someone doing a safe overtake is not doing.

Also, since you seem so intent on upholding the highway code, perhaps you should have a quick read of point 168 here: https://www.gov.uk/using-the-road-159-to-203/overtaking-162-to-169

Stop with the hypocrisy and educate yourself before you kill someone.

Because it worries me that I have to share the road with people who think like you and even worse, do so from some sort of misguided moral highground.

It's none of your business whether I want to drive at 60mph or 70mph or 80mph, it's even less your place to try your best to prevent me doing so by driving dangerously.

I sincerely hope that you pull this ridiculous stunt on an unmarked police car or something one day soon, and they stop you and treat you like the dangerous moron you are.

If there is oncoming traffic, the overtaker shouldn't be attempting the manoeuvre.

I get the impression that the people responding to my thoughts "are" the type of people attempting the manoeuvre in the first place.

You're creating a situation that promotes your opinion. Driving at 75mph on a NSL could also create a high speed crash.

If other motorists are breaking the speed limit around me it certainly is causing a dangerous situation for myself and passengers.

Again, it is my business if other road users find it acceptable to speed around vehicle, creating a dangerous situation for me.
