Hi guys,

I had another thread 'Dell to new'...

Anyway, ii have:
Cm690 case
Corsair ax650 psu
LG eve drive
Gigabyte z77x if3 mb
3570k chip
Crucial 8gb ram
Thermal paste.

I have installed the psu and she drive and today the mb and chip arrived so I can now put that and the ram in.

2 questions:
1. Is it all compatible? The ram us my only query.
2. Could I use my hd from my dell? It's 640gb SATA 3 gb/s running vista. I notice my mb has 4 SATA slots (from what I remember).

Saves me having to wait getting an ssd, hd and OS.

Thanks.

Mb = z77x-d3h, damn phone.

Couple of things?

What is 'she drive'?
Assuming you bought DDR3 Ram and the speed is supported, then yes. Did you not get advise prior to purchase?

You might get away with using the HDD from your Dell, but the new mobo drivers may not update so a fresh install would be required.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Eve = dvd.
Ram is crucial ballistix 1600mhz.

Yes I did seek advice, the ram was a last minute Xmas present as it was cheap and I just queried the idea of using my existing Dell hd.

If I need a new OS to support the mb etc, may as well buy the ssd, hd at the same time.

Yes, your mem is supported!

You could always download a Win8 trial to keep you going till you've bought the SSD & OS.

Thanks for the reassurance, I'll plug in what I have and keep an eye out for an ssd (120gb) as that will do me for now, my current hd has only used about 100 odd gb, including 30gb or so of games I won't install anytime soon.

Samsung and Intel the ssds of choice or is it a case of looking out for deals and checking the read/write times?

Hi guys,

Managed to install the chip, cooler, RAM etc and the speaker test worked fine and showed on my monitor.

My problem now is that I have put the monitor back on my dell but its getting no signal and displaying nowt. What's that all about?

Dell was fine yesterday, as was the monitor. Tried a different dvi cable, still making no difference.

Seems odd its doing this after I swapped the monitors over.

Any ideas?

Will maybe have to try an hd monitor too.
