Unemployed obese people - start losing weight or lose your benefits

What a totally silly purposal.
It even goes against the report, which isn't even aimed at obese but just everyone. Let alone the stupid purposes implementation.
And the fact is is not based on anything meaningful. These people don't have jobs due to being obese, so why single them out.

People wonder why they get the tag 'the Nasty Party'?

This is a really stupid idea. I am classed as 'obese' it does NOT effect my ability to get a job (hope not anyway) and doesn't effect how I work, my attitude, nothing like that. I physically struggle to lose weight, have a very slow metabolism and a problem with my neural pathways in that I have to eat about 1/3 more than others to feel full. I have asthma that is hereditary also, so strenuous exercise is a no-go. What will the Job Centre people say to that? Take away all my benefits?

I know the above sounds far-fetched, but I have medical documentation detailing it all. I slipped a disc at Bargain Booze and the pain it causes is intermittent, it stops me doing some things sometimes, is that another reason to dock my benefits? I don't think so. It's not like I enjoy being on the dole again. I am doing everything in my power to get a job, but having no driving license it is hard to find a job that is in my area that I am qualified to do.

One thing I think the Job Centre can do, or should do, is reduce payments to the stupid people who flunked school and/or college and have fudged their career options due to it. Something like, get the doley (right word?) to go on a specific course or lose money due to it...sounds fair to me?

If this 'ruling' or 'law' comes into effect I can see some public protesting or outcry as its fascist. I am quite sure that this country is NOT a Dictatorship, but it seems we are sliding that way...

do you think they'd not have a situation where if like you execise is an issue they you won't have to do it, or do what is a reasonable amount, e.g. walking on a tredmill?

they aren't thinking of forcing people who can't exercise to exercise, it's to force people who can but don't and then become a burden because of it and even worse.

You don't have to eat until you're full you know. :p

I'll never happen but you have to wonder what'd be next after smoking, fatty foods and drinking. Perhaps let's ban dangerous/semi-dangerous hobbies? OK let's ban driving as you can have a car crash, which costs money to sort out for the NHS/councils etc.

I'm one of the lucky people who have never been unemployed and earn enough not to receive any great help from the state at any point in my adult life, but this sort of benefits proposal doesn't help anyone. Ultimately it's about money, if we haven't enough it has to be cut, let's just say that rather than try to come up with silly justifications for it. Are we going to starve people thin? Why not run a boot camp in Ethiopia or a population exchange? OK perhaps that's taking it a bit too far? Isn't it?

Wow what a cracking idea, lets not look at the reasons why people eat crap food and lets just moan at them for it, typical government crap.

The reason most people eat complete grabage is they simply have no idea how to actually cook food, i don't mean they can't knock up a tasty coq au vin or anything complicated you could stick the most basic ingredients in front of them and they have no idea what to do. I remember watching Jamies ministry of food, and there were people who have no idea what water looks like in a pan when it is boiling, people were trying to cook pasta in luke warm water, there are swathes of people out there who would look as if you've just asked them to find the higgs boson particle with nothing more than a block of cheese, if you presented them with and asked them to prepare something as simple as an onion.

By failing miserably to teach kids to cook in schools we have bred a large number of people who's only real option is processed ready meals and junk food as they would know how to even rustle up an incredibly basic pasta dish, this is why people think that eating healthily is expensive because they don't know any better. Russled up a very tasty and quick lunch for me and the good lady yesterday that cost maybe £3 consisting of some wholewheat pasta, a tin of organic tomotoes, an onion, some garlic and some basil, you could easily feed a family of 4 on that for one meal, and nip into asda and get some cheap stuff and its going to cost next to nothing, i reckon you could feed a family of 5 a basic spag bol for less then £4 for the whole lot.

If we don't teach people to cook then they are going to eat crap.

It's good that they are trying to crack down on obesity, but next the unemployed will surely start claiming, or expect to claim benefits for a gym membership????
