Long time lurker.....

Had a 57 plate Golf GT Sport 170 for the past 5 years, 4 of which were a company vehicle. Just over 44k on the clock, purchased a year ago from lease company for 8.5k (probably some equity in it)

Looking at Audi as I have a family member which should get me some good discount. Unsure whether to go up a size or 2, or go like for like size wise.

Would like opinions on the vechicle in the link please....go easy first post in here LOL

Thanks in advance. All advice, critique welcomed....

The new A3 is a lovely drive, and a massive step up over the 10 year old outgoing model!

Nearly £20k to get something which is essentially the same car, but slightly newer?

Nothing like the same. If his golf were a MK7 then yes (although the Audi is far nicer inside), but it wasn't.

Will this be used effectively as a company car and financed through a car allowance then?

If so, i'm guessing the car has to be new or nearly new and if you're comfortable that the numbers work out then why not I guess? The new A3 is a nice all rounder.

I can't ever imagine spending that much on a smallish diesel hatch but to be fair if it's a tool for work, someone else is effectively paying for it and there are restrictions in place things change a bit.

No, no more car allowance so not used as a company car. Mileage isn't huge (yes petrol could be an option - 1.4TFSI maybe)

Would prefer nearly new, doesn't have to be new.

Audi - due to the discount.....remember :)

That is a huge amount of money for really not very much car at all.

Personally I'd look at a used A4 instead - the current shape has been around a little longer so you can get current model cars for quite a lot less money. Less than £20k should quite easily see you into a decent mid or top spec A4 3.0 TDI S-Line or similar.

As for your 'discount', depending on where exactly said family member works I wouldnt bank on this being deal of the decade, especially not on a used vehicle from outside the dealer group he works for, as its not as if the margin is particularly huge on some of them anyway.

This is very true - was the same with a friend of mine, one of his mates works down at westerly in Exeter and promised him a good deal. 320D for the price of a Golf I think was the promise! Needless to say, it never happened
