Thermaltake Frio good enough for 3570K?

I do understand your logic. Let us know how it all works out. :)

Will do, I'm considering the civetta and might stick a spare gentle typhoon on it to get a bit more out of it (looks like single fan only though, so no push pull). It's just for Photoshop and light use so it doesn't need a wild overclock.

Thanks for all the help chaps. I may be back in the future if my Frio really can't transfer the heat fast enough. I'll post up some temps once everything is up and running though.

I suggest spending a couple more quid and getting the Zaward Vapor 120. 3x 8mm pipes vs 3x 6mm pipes is 33% more pipe area, 120mm fan vs 92mm fan is 70% more fan area,, clips included for second fan, etc. That's a lot more cooler for only £7 more than Civetta costs.

Thermal paste lasts as long as it's proper constancy.

Bugger, already ordered the civetta. Ah well, it may be a bit noisier than planned, but I doubt she'll notice.

So I built my pc last night, and it turns out the Frio is still very good. 4.5GHz at 1.27V (I actually haven't tested if I can go lower on this yet, I literally just set the offset and multi and booted in), and after ten runs of LinX (IBT without the bugs) I saw a max temp of 76C and idle sits around 27C-30C in a warm room.

Prime will be lower no doubt, so I'm hoping I have a good chip and can push it a bit further. It seems like from 4.5GHz onwards it's all diminishing returns though, so I may end up back here anyway.

Hi Devrij,

That does sound good... what did you use to measure the temp and is that the max core temp or cpu surface temp ?

Realtemp seems to be the most accurate for me ;)

That was using realtemp, and cores 1 and 3 are the hottest at 76C, with 0 and 4 usually about 4-6C cooler, but that's an acceptable difference for me.

The fans aren't PWM so they are always going full whack, but they're very quiet so I'm happy with that.

I didn't have much time to test everything before bed, but I'm hoping to get a bit more hands-on on Sunday and see how far I can get with it. So far I'm pretty pleased though, because my SB rig was hotter at 4.2GHz and needed a lot more volts (I gave the HSF a thorough clean when I stripped everything down so that's probably the main factor here).

Cool, that's very good... Give it a good long burn in with prime95 even if it hits 80 that's good enough for me. Congrats

Yeah, I'm sure it'll creep up there after an hour or so. I may go for 4.8, but if it takes loads of volts and heat I'll just back it off. Already got an entry in the 5GHz club so I don't get all crazy anymore :p
