Is there a spotify-alike for tv shows or films?

We get plenty of spec me a tv show threads, and I was wondering if something similar to Spotify has been done for films/tv.

A sort of Spotify/IMDB/Metacritic hybrid that would allow people to rate films and tv shows, and also search for them based on shows they like.

So I give a list of shows I like, and it then gives me the other top shows liked by the other users who like my search criteria.

Is that not what Netflix and Lovefilm are like?... I don't use them so I'm not sure if it is, but that's the impression I got.

Edit: think Lovefilm is the one where they post stuff to you actually

But the are subscription services, and I would assume the rating data is only relevant to their userbase. I understand that Spotify is also subscription, but the last time I checked I could still see recommended songs without one, I just couldn't load specific songs.

A site that anyone could use to input their reviews and let me people search off that data would be cool.

Theres a little section below where it shows what other users liked in similar genre and rating. Also the lists on the side can be useful to hunt movies and TV.

Weird, mine only shows me other shows/films I have recently viewed, nothing from other users.

Lists are fairly useless as it is only one person's opinion, rather than the aggregate opinion of all the people that like whatever it is you are looking at.

What I would like is for me to state that I like Dexter, True Blood and Entourage, and for the site to then recommend other shows that people who all rated the above three highly, also rate highly. A large scale 'recommended by a friend' type approach that will let more people discover more shows.

This definitely exists and you don't even need to log into IMDB to see it.

Think you need to look around the page a bit more.

It's towards the bottom and it's called "People who liked this also liked", it's just above the user reviews.

The "people who liked this also liked" part of imdb isn't about providing reccomendations of similar films, its films that people who have watched a particular film have also liked.

I like terminator 2 and I also like how to train your dragon. It isn't what the OP is looking for.

Well the New Girl recommendations were all comedy/drama shows, so it seems to link genres.

But if there are shows of a similar type liked by watchers of the show you'll like it'll be recomended won't it. And right now it's the best he's got.

Dexter does have it. I think you need to let the page full load before scrolling down. Also dexter links to things like The Mentalist, the Wire, Lie to me, Criminal Minds which are are cop related/mystery solving shows. I mean they're not exactly like Dexter but what show is?
