Which handheld to get (no troll)

Hey all, I will soon be moving house and be getting the train to work for an hour each way, so it's time to get a handheld console! But, I don't know if I should get a Vita or 3DSXL.

I really don't like Nintendo first party games, like... well, all of them. I like serious games. I won't be very interested in the 3D of the 3DS and would have it switched off most of the time. But the 3DS has lots of games out and lots of games for 2013, and won't die out.

The Vita doesn't have many games out and doesn't have have a big line up for 2013. There is a chance it will be discontinued. I don't have a PS3 to link it up with. But the games are more serious/ less nintendo-y, have twin analogue sticks and nicer graphics.

So help me out! Which one would you go for in my situation?
 
I'd vote for the Vita. I have both and can't actually remember when I used the 3DS last. There may not be many games for the Vita but there are some good ones. I'm playing Uncharted at the moment and it's amazing. If you like RPGs then check out Persona 4 Golden that will give you 100+ hours of gaming. I honestly think the vita is in a different class to the 3DS and would be my choice if I had to choose one.
 
do you have a ps3?

if you have psplus you can get free games for the vita...might help your decision. Right now you can get uncharted and mortal kombat for free.
 
there is lots of games for the psvita now and extensive mini games and psp back catalogue of games. It won't become discontinued in 2013 thats for sure, lol
 
The vita has an excellent selection of PSP/PSX RPG's and other games for it that play and look very good so unless you have played them its not lacking that many games, certain genres are lacking as FPS never worked too well on PSP imo and psx ones are very dated now.

i havent got a 3DS but as the only reason i would get one would be for the mario range of games and you dont like nintendo games
 
Dunno if the 3DS competes with Vita as a media player as well, watching movies or tv shows on the Vita is very nice as well.
 
The PS Vita has more games than people realise. I've got loads for mine. A lot of the good ones are download only which probably explains why some people still think it's lacking in games.

I've got a 3DS and it's great but the PS Vita has more of my type of games on it, a lot of them looking just as good as the PS3 versions too.

But these aren't actually free games are they? They're just rented whilst you have a valid PS+ membership. Unless I'm wrong?

Vita is a great bit of kit though, but does need more games.
 
vita if you dont mind mainly playing psp games :)
I have one and never owned a psp so there are tons of quality titles for cheap that i have never tried that i am working my way through
 
1 year subscription is £30 at the moment so you could probably download the game, play it and have your fill of it in less than a year.
 
I haven't used my Vita as much as I thought I would but I do go through long periods of playing one game, just now it's NFS Most Wanted...great game
Virtual Tennis 4 was great too
