I currently am in the market for a new television, but would also like a new monitor.

NOW, here is the quandary.

Do I get a 27" monitor to upgrade my current dual 22" setup or would a 50" plasma in the lounge linked to the PC via HDMI offer good fun for the money?

My current TV is a 28" Bush CRT ;)

Answers on a postcard please.

I'd go for the 27" as I'd personally get worried about burn in with the plasma. But then it depends on what exactly you plan on using it for. I think TVs are more suited to console gaming than PC, but that's me.

My kids have just gotten into gaming on the PC and the Desk/PC setup seems a solitary experience and we have started playing co-op games together.

I think I am going to go for the largest 120hz/144hz monitor I can get for £500.

TV's are a minefield.

For £500, it seems difficult to find a set at 42" which is suitable for gaming. Gaming would not be the primary use, but I could not "settle" if it played games any less than my desktop.

I have a 50" LG PA650T which I use for pc gaming if the games support a pad. Much better experience sat on the sofa with a large screen and surround sound than hunched over the desk.

Not had any screen burn or any other issues and it works perfect.

I used a 40inch TV for years, but bought a 27" 144hz monitor last year and my game improved a lot, For online FPS go for the monitor. For single player games with a joypad then the TV is brilliant :)
