I'm Like and He's Like and They're Like

Like was so last year 'round these parts, now it's all actually this and actually that.

Occasionally you get the weirdos throwing in like as well so you get 'like actually'.

Out of badness when people talk like that to me I say unlike, for real and, for those who stick 'yes' and 'em' every second word I say no and 'n'. I'm such fun to be around.

Example:

So yeah I was em like actually walking down the em road the other day yeah.

Didnt the whole 'like' thing start in underground blues type houses.

'Like wow, like yeah, tssss'.

Or was that something i saw on Grim Fangdango?
Now its just used by children and teenagers.

I don't think the whole 'like' thing is quite as prevalent now as it was in the late 90s.

If anything, the more disturbing youth speak these days is the Jamaican Patois that so many young people talk with.

"Oh my dayz, Ya get me me blud? Me and U is fam!"

Yeah that really annoys me. Didn't know it was Jamaican Patois though...

My son started talking like that one day. He was doing it to take the mick out of other people doing it and thought it was stupid. Now it seems its no longer stupid but is actually cool.

I sometimes care about this stuff, then realise that language does indeed evolve and is a natural thing, it's nothing to do with lowering standards and everything to do with function.

When listening to the younger folk speak to each other, and sometimes to adults, every other word seems to be an expletive or a made up word that doesn't make any sense (blud, bruv etc etc)

The biggest problem seems to be the fact that no-one is correcting them on the use of proper English and listening to these 'conversations' makes me die a little inside :(

An annoying Essex woman in my office uses this far too often - she seems to have an aversion to the word "said", so she says "So I was like "OK", then he was like "Wha'eva" and then I was like "shu' up"".

Also, she didn't know what Gaza was, what ie. means and she didn't believe that "unplugged" was a word...

ive been around a lot of gimps who who use like a lot. its usually after the word "savage"

even worse the gimps use the word "like" on the end of their facebook posts etc!!
