Do you fear death?

I don't fear it as such, just a shame that life has to end.

e - Obviously I would probably defecate in my knickers if death was seconds away, but in general day to day life I don't have a fear of it.

It all comes down to the same thing.....the unknown.

Everyone is scared of the unknown. It's the real reason why a lot of people flatly deny the existence of God, Ghosts, UFO's and what not. Some may truly not believe, but a lot of this disbelief is subconsciously triggered by a fear of the unknown, a trait found in every human.

I'd fear it if it was imminent at the moment as I'd quite like to live to at least an average lifespan and there are plenty more things I'd like to do/achieve. Fearing it when you get old though... tis something that we can't (currently) avoid or delay significantly so its something you've got plenty of time to come to terms with.

You can't drown you fool, your immortal! ...schhhh

Terrified.

But when I do go, I want a really dramatic death. Either:

  • Fighting a grizzly bear with a large knife on its back whilst skydiving from a plane
  • Saving an orphanage from a bomb by jumping into a large rotating fan

I'd doubt that tbh... plenty of people flatly deny the existence of those things simply because they don't stand up to reason. The idea that skeptics are motivated by fear is a bit dubious IMO.

If anything people make up religious beliefs to mitigate fear of death... almost every culture has at some point invented a belief in reincarnation or in some form of afterlife.

One day I shall die and there's nothing I can do to avoid it so I don't let it bother me. Obviously I don't want a painful and lingering death so how I go is of importance but I shall worry about that, if I need to, when the time comes.

Also to paraphrase, I think it's, Woody Allen "I'm not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens"

I don't fear death insofar as I'm at peace with its inevitability, but I do want to live as long as possible because I don't believe in any afterlife. I want to experience as much as possible, which makes the inevitability of death somewhat inconvenient.

What I fear most is, suffering a stroke and being trapped inside my body unable to move. I know what this is like with suffering from sleep paralysis and I can tell you, it's not pleasant.

What I said is that it is the case for a lot of people. Many do genuinely disbelieve, particularly these hardened sceptics, but I feel a lot of people disbelieve through fear of the unknown.

i think anyone thinking about their life too much or has a boring life may fear it more than someone who lives their life to the fullest and has achieved a lot more in their life..

If it all ends the same then what advantage has anyone had over anyone else?
