HIS 7950 IceQ Boost Sound Issue

I used to have a 560ti card that I had connected to my TV (second display) with a DVI to HDMI cable, and both picture and sound worked perfectly once I changed the default playback device. I've now changed to the above card and the sound doesn't work, and there isn't any option in the playback device for it.

So basic question, are the AMD cards not capable of playing sound through the DVI port, or could it be a driver problem?

DVI is not capable of playing audio through it but HDMI does - that is one of the main reasons they released HDMI because of the ability to carry audio as well as picture. Hope this helps :)

Hmm not sure about that. I have a DVI to HDMI cable plugged into my PC and the sound goes through it into my TV with no problems.

Which end is HDMI?

Because DVI does not support sound.

DVI in card, HDMI in TV, exactly how I had it in my 560ti which worked with sound. I presumed it would work exactly the same, but searching for an answer lots of people think that DVI doesn't support sound, which is obviously wrong from my own example. It appears that it's not a standard feature though (stupid when possible) and depends on the card manufacturer.

Only not happy because I've just bought a new 10m cable to link the TV :(

That's how mine is set up and it works fine.

Same card, HIS HD 7950?

It's not even showing up in my playback options to enable. Might try installing an older driver and see if it changes anything. At least I will when my computer works, as my motherboard has died now :(

Nah I'm using a 670.

Try going to the sound properties and seeing what options you have. It may show up as a sound device and you may need to change it.
