Good Morning GD.

A happy New year to you all.

I am just looking for a little advise as to who to call regarding being charged twice at a petrol station?

I have just checked my Statements and it would appear they charged me 50.25 for the fuel on the 4th, but then 50.23 has also been charged, again on the 4th?

Now I know i didn't give the clerk my card, and I only put it in the card reader once, so i don't think it has been "Cloned" however, do I go back into the Petrol station / ring them, or ring my bank?

Any help would be appreciated :)

No point going back to the petrol station as I don't think they have the authority to investigate and refund unless you speak directly to a supervisor / manager.

Contact their customer services and enquirer about this and see what their response is.

If you think it could have been cloned, then put a holt on the card for the time being.

Many thanks guys.

I have read up on the Cloning side of things, and as said I never handed my card to the Clerk and I only placed it in the card holder once, but i will get onto my Bank A.S.A.P

Call the bank.

What station was it? If it was Esso then rest assured they couldn't charge your card if youre not there as the system will only do chip and pin payments. Even if we have to swipe a card then it still asks to be put in the reader to be pin verified :)

Ive had a similar thing happen at Tesco btw, my card was declined one the first attempt but went thru the 2nd time. When I checked online my account was down twice the amount. Came back a few days later tho as it was just on hold.

Do both payments actually say they are to the petrol station? Also do you fill up there regularly?

It is also possible that those payments are from entirely different days and one was just debited late, seeing as the 4th was Friday this is quite possible.

Whatever you do don't "kick off" with anyone as you'll just make yourself look like a moron.

You have £50 of petrol,
burn their garage down, that'll learn em :)

take pictures of a creepy smug kid in the foreground and hand those to the police.

Go to petrol station and ask them to look into it. It shouldn't be to much of a job to match your card payment(s) to the till role. Job done.

It is odd that the amounts weren't the same, as that probably rules out a fault with the machine itself (its very (very) rare but I have known them to duplicate payments)

Its electronic these days and we could only see the receipts for that past 48 hours. Do you have your copies of the card receipts?

Best thing is call the bank and dispute the payment as they will then ask the retailer for the retaillers copy of the EFT receipt but if you visit there regularly and have been over the holiday period then bare in mind it may not have been processed strasight away hence why 2 are on the same date.

How often do you fill up? Some stores save their card payments until the end of the month, so you'll get them debit from your account all in one go.

Strange that the amount is different though or is that a typo OP?

Not a Typo i'm afraid.

As you can see, the amounts are very similar, and they both came out on the same day

I only ever fill up at this petrol station ( in my area) but the last time I filled up here was the 19th of December and I have been charged for that already.
I have been into the branch and actually spoke to the chap that served me, he even remembers me as he has quite a nice car I always chat to him about.

He has said the machine won't charge me twice, and also due to the amounts being different, it rules out a "double charge".

I have phoned the bank and I'm awaiting them to investigate and contact me :)
