CPU fan out of control?

I have had my computer about 2 years ago now, and from the word go when I either turn the computer on, or wake it up, the cpu fan (only) will go crazy.

It will be running at high rpm and making a whooshing tone I have never heard from any other pc. Up to now I have just used SpeedFan to reset the fan back to a normal rpm every time it does it (when i do this i check the cpu temp and its fine?) .

When i play a game the fan does act accordingly and speeds up, but doesnt make that tone, which makes me even more sure the tone shouldnt be there.

I am using black edition AMD phenom x4 955, and the fan is the coolermaster hyper 212 plus.

Anyone had a problem like this? I've got the point now where i just wish it would be able to regulate itself better and stop making the noise. :(

Have you cleaned the insides out at all over the two years you have had the rig? You could have fluff and all sorts between the fins of the heatsink causing temps to rise so the fan speed increases to help control the temps......worth a look perhaps?

Compressed Air & a Hoover! Works a treat :D

Hoovers create a lot of static electricity. I wouldn't recommend using that method.

Compressed air is fine though :p

I displace the dust with the compressed air, and collect with the hoover. I only use the hoover directly on the fans, covers & dust filters.

I do get rid of dust when it builds up, but it has no effect. Also what makes me sure its nothing to do with grease or dust is that it did it from the word go - from the first time I ever turned it on - when there was absoloutely no dust there whatsoever, and everything was brand new.

And my motherboard - asus m4a78lt-m, im not sure if it has a cool and quiet mode or not, is there a way to check?

Have you ever been into the bios - into the HW Monitor Configuration?
Sounds to me like Smart Q-Fan is disabled tho it should be enabled by default

You should be able to download AMD cool n quiet software from Asus website.

I have one of those boards in one of my folding machines. It does indeed have a cool and quiet option in the BIOS.
