Ben Q monitor @120MHz...

Hi all I've just built a system for my wee boy and we can't seem to get it to run @120MHz unless we drop the resolution to 1024x768, all the hardware is using the latest drivers and all windows updates are installed. I understand this is related to the Dual-DVI connection from the monitor to video card which we have had to connect using 2 supplied Dual-DVI to mini hdmi reducers....which is ridiculously long and without any support, definitely putting a strain on the cards connectors.

Could this be why we can't get it to run @120MHz? Also the monitor seems to have trouble getting a signal when we shutdown and restart, I have to move it to one of the other mini-hdmi slots before the monitor will display windows again....really annoying when I've spent over £1500 on this system.

Can anyone tell us how best to connect the video card to the monitor? we only have 3 mini hdmi and a display port on the card, I was expecting it to have a DVI to hook straight up to the monitor.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't think you'll be able to get 1920x1080 @ 120Hz from HDMI.

As the monitor has a DisplayPort connection the simplest answer is to buy a DisplayPort cable and connect using that.

You'll get your 1920x1080 @ 120Hz then.

Hi Surveyor and thanks for the speedy reply, it's very much appreciated. I'm clearly a bit rusty with pc hardware these days since my eh...Voodoo2, I was panicking a bit thinking we were going to be limited to 60MHz gaming with such a nice card :-)

A few quid on a DisplayPort cable and your wee boy soon have 1080p 120Hz goodness.

Just to report we now have a fully operational system running at 120Hz via the display port...not MHz as I stated before.

Can someone let me know what the practical difference is between gaming at 120hz vs 60hz? I thought the eye was too slow to pick up much difference anyway, and lcd's do t flicker anyway?

Common mistake people make due to lies and people who don't have a clue in the area talking ******** (not like I have a clue either)

The human eye can perceive way past 120hz just some people are more susceptible to it than others, I personally don't see that much difference between 60hz and 120hz, I do notice a slight difference in the motion of things but its nothing I would spend money on to have. 120hz is more fluid than 60hz, motion is smoother, more responsive, less tearing, quicker respond times etc, its just over-all better than 60hz in every way (assuming you can perceive the differences), not everyone can.
