New tablet, iPad vs N10 vs Note vs TPT2

That's the old Twitter app for the iPad. They've since ruined it and made it worse. :p

I use Tweetbot though, it's by far the best Twitter app I've ever used but it's not on Android (yet).

Yeh I know, but it was just an example to emphasise the problem. :p

Still don't know why twitter made it worse on the ipad though, strange that! :p

Thanks for the replies guys :)

Is there a big difference in gaming on the iPad? I assumed phone games would work fine on the N10 as they mostly have screen size independent interfaces? Not a massive app user, will check out the web stores and see whats available for each platform before making a decision.

In terms of quality games iOS is still far, far ahead of Android. That applies to phones as well as tablets. Android games will probably work fine on the N10, but the Android game scene is still lousy regardless of what device you're using anyway. This is probably especially true for games that are well suited to tablets, like board game conversions.

Spotify tablet version for android is still none existant. Quite a popular app and im sure many here can list others missing from Android.

i love the ipad. it is a great device and im a huge android fanboy as well!!

Pffftt. There are more great games on Android than I can play.

Most of which are probably ports from old iOS games that are missing content and features :p

Seriously though, it's good you're finding stuff you like. But having owned both platforms I find that the Android gaming scene is unfortunately pretty woeful. Which is a shame as I prefer Android for most other things and still plan on sticking with it for both my phone and tablet.

Hardware fragmentation on the Android side makes it hard for developers to base a solid platform on which to develop games due to the different SoCs and the GPUs in them used by each OEM. Add to that the less willingness of most typical users preparing to pay for apps/games compared to the iOS App Store and you can see why it's in the state that it is.

Apple has the better ecosystem that's for sure, as someone who made the switch from using a Android smartphone to a IP5. Majority of the apps most use are on both ecosystems, What I found out when I switched was Gaming is literally 100x better on iOS than it was with Android.

Onto the topic in this thread, go with the iPad. You cannot go wrong with one, hardware wise it's top notch, selection/quality of apps is better on iOS.

The only reason I'd go with an Android tablet is for tinkering/hacking purposes. It's inferior in every other way compared to an iPad.

Personally I would go for an Android tablet, having ordered a N10 over the Note 10.1 my choice would be N10 out of those mentioned. But I have my reasons mainly Rooting, Moding etc.

I have an iPad-2 from work and I can say that it does everything that OP wants to do and yes the quality of some tablet specific apps is higher on iOS than Android but is also limited, no proper file manager etc.

All the mentioned tabs will do the things you want to do better than the Xoom it comes down to the eco system you want to invest in, I am android through and through but I know that iPad is a very capable device. I personally use it for work (apps dev etc) and Sky Go specifically.

From My experience it comes down to a few things.

N10 - Best for Media, if you plan to watch any kind of content it will be so much better then the iPad. The iPad you just get a section of the video in the middle of the screen and looks more or less crap. Its lighter then the iPad too.

iPad - Best for web, the aspect ratio is perfect for the web, and everything just fits perfectly and looks good, not to say the N10 doesn't look good but I just never felt it was just right.

Apps, all depends on you but the iPad has more tablet optimized apps, that make use of the screen better and bring some really good features. Android tablets tend to scale well and don't look overly pixelated and lately with the rise of the N7 there is more and more tablet apps coming. It still has a long way to catch up tbh.

For me personally I tend to watch more media so I would go for the N10, but it really depends on your usage. If your usage is even across the border then its which OS you feel more comfy with, which build you like more, and what price your willing to pay.
