Hey guys, im totally out of the loop in terms of whats hot and whats good value, so need some advice for an upgrade im planning for this month.

Current system is an old 775, with [email protected], some corsair xms ddr2, and quite frankly its showing its age.
Dont need anything other than the mobo/cpu/ram i think possibly a ssd but thats pushing it i think.

Current PSU is an antec truepower 550w, graphics is xfx 6850 @ 875/1150, couple of old wd 7200 hdds and 1 dvd drives and 1 writer, sound my xtrememusic pci.

So what could i get for £300-£400, give me good performance and hopefully wont bottleneck when i get a new graphics card later in the year.

Would definitely upgrade your motherboard, CPU and RAM. For that budget your looking easily at an i5 system. Your old PSU would be fine but would look to upgrade that perhaps with your graphics card. You could get and SSD to for under that budget but i would save up a little more and get a higher capacity one.

Lets start:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM £179.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £112.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £35.99
Total : £340.37 (includes shipping : £9.50).

That looks just the ticket, good shout about the PSU at the same time as the graphics, forgot i would have to do that...should add the CPU will be cooled with my titan fenrir evo.

You probably wouldn't have to as 550W if good enough for a single card but it would be a good idea :)
Yeah that cooler looks fine to me. No harm in upgrading if you fancy throwing away the cash but there is really no need

Seeing how the retail 3570k is the same price as the OEM, 3yr warranty v 1yr warranty, retail makes better sense.
Unless you are thinking of going sli/xfire, then the D3H is good enough for your needs.
Also included the 840 Pro.
