Virgin Media Discussion Thread

WooHoooo!!!!!! my first reason to post in this thread!!! :( :(

Was on the phone to VM yesterday to get a phone package sorted, and whilst that was all getting done the guy on the phone said I've put your speed upto 60Mb so I thought nice  Wet onto the PC did a speedtest and yup 59.6Mb but it had abit of a crappy Upload, queue 3-4 hours later, when I started noticing my browsing/gaming was getting abit sluggish, so ran a pingtest, as speedtest was still 55Mb+...... 10% Packet Loss...... fairly low ping i must say, jitter was abit crazy. anyways after work I just ran another pingtest

Looks lovely dont it :D

Rang them back and said an upgrade is supposed to be an upgrade blah blah

Apparently theres a fault in my area just as my upgrade came along ;)
They have given me a £7.50 credit note as a sorry gesture so I cant complain to much.

check there to see if you area is over utilised or not, it looks like everywhere is now over-utilised.

I've checked on their forums, and my area doesn't seem to be over-utilised, I've only come across one thread for my area and the problem was indeed similar but apparently was only affecting him/herself.

So I don't know really will wait and see what happens over the next few days, to see if this fault that they say there is will sort it out. :o

Just had my double speed upgrade, gone from 50mb to 100mb and im currently using my old VMNG300 modem and Netgear N900 router and im happy with my wired and wireless network and internet download speed. Today ive received my Superhub and im unsure about whether to bother using it, ive read many stories about the "superdud" and some say that on its newest firmware with "Modem Only" mode enabled its fine, others seem to say to avoid it and that the VMNG300 fine.

Im happy to set it up and use modem only mode, and test for myself to see how it behaves, but will I still be able to swap back to the VMNG300 if the superhub doesnt perform as well as expected?

Has anyone swapped and had any problems or am I just reading too many forums and the Superhub is fine?

Thanks for any help, Darryn.

anyone know anything about this?

i received my contract a few days ago for internet and phone which had my amounts to pay each month.

yesterday i received another with just the phone on and -6.50 on it.

before i sign and send it back, is this normal?

well it was nice of virgin to reschedule my installation for the 17th and not tell me.

waste of a holiday...

phoned them up and the nice Scottish man was very sorry but did nothing.

Well I am getting the terrible stuttering in BF3 ping steady at 9-25 and then suddenly jumps to 300 for a few seconds. I've posted on the VM forums and the support team say there is nothing wrong with my connection to their end and nothing wrong/over utilised. My power levels are on the border line though and they want to send an engineer to sort that. But I am not getting any problems with speed. Still getting 104/5 all the time.

I have just checked your connection and network segment extensively. Everything appears to be great over the last 3 days and there do not appear to have been any network problems recently in relation to power levels, utilisation, Signal noise ratio, packet loss etc.

Seen as there are many others experiencing the stuttering lag I'll just say it has nothing to do with one specific area.

I don't think I can swap to BT due to them putting us in another contract period when upgrading 20->100. Unless the latest ToS change can give me a way out.
